Merritt E. Jones DDS
Dr, Jones grew up in Jesup and graduated from Jesup High School in 1972. He attended the University of Iowa and earned an undergraduate degree with a Bachelors of Science in 1976. He went on to study at the University of Iowa College of Dentistry and graduated with a DDS in 1980. Dr. Jones enjoys attending continuing education courses and keep abreast of developments in the profession. He is a member of the American Dental Association and Iowa Dental Association. Â He is also a long time member of the Flying Dentists Association. I know it sounds like a joke but it lets him combine his love of flying with his love of dentistry.
In his spare time, Dr. Jones enjoys amateur radio, astronomy, scuba diving, water skiing, snow skiing, woodworking, sailing, backpacking, rock climbing and he has a multiengine instrument Commercial pilot’s license.

Community involvement has always been important to Dr. Jones. He has served on the Jesup School Board for 9 years, Planning and Zoning Commission for 25 years, and youth leader at American Lutheran Church for 25 years, He is also on the board of the Jesup Economic Development Foundation, He has been a member of Jesup’s LIONS Club for 31 years and was a founding member of the Jesup Chamber of Commerce.
Currently, his main community focus is Boy Scouts. He has been active in Jesup Scouting since 1983 and has served as Scout Master for 10 years. He also serves on the Winnebago Council Executive Board and has been awarded Scouting’s District Award of Merit and Silver Beaver award. He served on the medical staff for the 2001 National Boy Scout Jamboree and led a troop as Scoutmaster for the 2005 National Jamboree. He takes particular pride in having helped over a dozen boys earn the rank of Eagle Scout.
Dr. Jones and his wife, Connie, have two boys. Christopher, who is a Pharmacy student at the University of Hawaii and Brian, is an undergraduate student at the University of Iowa.
