Following graduation from Bucknell University, Michael Axe received his medical degree from Jefferson Medical College of Thomas Jefferson University in 1979, where he continued for a year's internship before surgical residency with the Medical Center of Delaware through 1981 and orthopaedic residency at the University of Pittsburgh through 1984. After sports and trauma fellowships with the Hughston Sports Medicine Hospital (Columbus, Ga.) and Harborview Hospital (Seattle, Wash.), Dr. Axe was a founding partner of First State Orthopaedics in Newark, Del., in 1985, where he remains as director of the All Sports Clinic of Delaware. He has also been a teaching staff member of the Medical Center of Delaware since 1985 and has three continuing appointments with the University of Delaware: professor of physical therapy since 1992; medical director of the Sports Physical Therapy Residency Program beginning in 1993; and faculty member for biomedical engineering research since 1994.

Dr. Axe is …a co-host of "Youth in Sports," a weekly live cable television program started in 1994, and he has delivered the Blue Hen Injury Report on WRDX (94.7 FM) since 1999. Beginning in 2003, he has served as high-school basketball injury analyst and commentator on WDEL (1150 AM), and in 2004 his "Axe Facts" and "Ask Axe" columns were featured in local print media. Dr. Axe has given many presentations concerning sports medicine and has served numerous sports medicine consultantships, medical advisorships, and team-physician appointments.

Dr. Axe currently holds active affiliation with Christiana Hospital and St. Francis Hospital, as well as courtesy affiliation with the A.I. DuPont Institute. He has served on numerous academic thesis and dissertation committees, authored many peer-reviewed journal articles, and is the recipient of considerable grant funding for sports-medicine research.

Office staff going to appeal the authorization for long acting shot. Nice when you're provider goes to bat for you when insurance company is not seeing things form an efficacy standpoint + only looking at financial.

He was great. I was in and out of there pretty quickly. Had to get a cortisone shot; wasn't bad at all.

I’ve been a patient of Dr. Michael Axe for several years. I went in for an injection for my ailing left knee. He said he had a newer product that has gotten promising reviews, the benefit to kick in by the weekend. I could tell the difference in an hour! Now my right knee is jealous because the left feels so good. Thanks, Doc I feel like dunking a basketball. Just kidding, won’t do that..

Had excruciating pain from what felt like underneath my scapula. Went to my primary and they gave me some pain meds that didn't work and a script for PT. A friend told me about Dr. Axe. I went to the office next to the hospital and he injected me right in the office and the pain went away instantly. I walked around for almost 2 weeks in excruciating pain and in about 10 minutes Dr. Axe fixed me right up. Highly recommend. Thanks Dr. Axe!
