Dr. Michael Allen Becker, MD

I'd go to a country vet rather than back to him. Bad bad bad.

I sought out Dr. Becker's care several years ago, after suffering from seven back to back gout attacks in both my feet ranging from the big toe into the ankle. My uric acid tests were at 10.5 at their highest. My doctors office faxed my records to Dr. Becker, I drove from Indianapolis to Chicago to meet with him. I had my mother go with me, who lives right outside the city and I found at the time that having a second set of ears helps when you are trying to diagnose a major medical issue. Anyway, Dr. Becker comes into the room and says "you don't have gout". I disagreed and he showed me a copy of a blood test that had been taken after I had a major attack at which time any chronic gout suffer knows, your uric acid levels drop when it settles out into the joints. He gave me a brief physical exam and continued to imply I was a liar regarding the uric acid levels. I thought at the time, from memory, they were twelve, but it was 10.5. I told him he had a terrible bedside manner as… I left. Several weeks later my DO told me that Dr. Becker had contacted him and blamed my DO's office for not sending my charts. He could have picked up the phone in the office that day and confirmed, but thought it best to berate his patient. My DO was able to get my gout in check after a full year on colchicine and 700mg of Allopurinol per day. He did for me what Dr. Becker was unable to do. To put the cherry on the sundae, Dr. Becker then charged me almost $200.00 for treating me like garbage and implying I was a liar. If you need to go to this guy, good luck. Looks like it's hit or miss, but after twelve different diagnosis from the Mayo Clinic in 2007 at least I know I'm not a hypochondriac or a flake like he made me feel. Any Doctor who makes a sick person feel like they are crazy need to retire and take up golf.

This is a bright, caring, experienced physician who has a huge amount of empathy for his patience. This is a doctor whose his patience are his primary concern both in the clinic and outside his office. Amazingly accessable
