Dr. Michael James Biunno, MD

I saw Dr. Biunno for bipolar disorder. He was brilliant and instrumental in working with me to find the best medication combinations and dosages that were right for me and whoever I was at any given moment.

Dr. Biunno is very nice, helpful, and understanding.

Decent doc.

Look elsewhere. This doctor is not worth your time or much less your money.

He didn't read through my ADHD test results throughly enough b4 seeing me to realize i have innatentive add, and even if he did maybe he doesn't believe in the inattentive type. Contrary to my test results, and the opinions of my psychotherapist (been seeing her 5 years) and a very distinguished psychiatrist who took a special interest in my case last year, he thinks i DONT have add. His reasoning: i did well in high school without much parental supervision focing me to do well, and i have never been in a fender-bender. To him i am simply depressed. It could be because he was looking at the clock repeatedly throughout the whole session (which started half an hour late so maybe he was in a hurry--but he did not hide that from me at all)or because he didnt get enough info from me since he kept cutting me off, that he made, what i believe, is a misdiagnosis. Also, i question his knowledge on ADHD in general. I told him about reading how add can be an oscilation b/t not being able to… focus, and then hyperfocusing on things of interest (for me, art)and he laughed at me and said "NO add is NOT being able to focus"....i've talked to several people with add who were shocked by this because what i said is true. It isnt that he is wrong about me that upset me the most. The thing that made me mad was when i was trying to explain to him why i think im add, or what i have learned from reading (tons of books and articles) he cut me off --again--- and said something like "now i dont wanna butt heads here, thats nto what this is for" and got up and started writing perscriptions. Yes, thats right, he gave me the meds for add even tho he didnt think i was add. He said he wasnt going to go against the tests which said "add, rule out depression" (thank GOD). It was a very confusing exeperience, but i went to an add forum online and some people there helped me by reassuring me that i have to be my own advocate, no one else will. So my plan is to find another doc and hopefully this time i will get it right. Maybe he was having a bad day and thats why his demeanor was not good for a psychiatrist (your handling sometimes fragil people! i mean come on!), or maybe he just personally did not like me, my demeanor, etc. BUT the most glarring issue with this doctor (for me) was his lack of understanding of innatentive ADD and the whole no focus/hyperfocusing thing. That scared me.
