I have many bad exchanges with Dr C but the most shameful one was that at just 29 years old, he told me and I quote...." that something is definitely wrong with your immune system or lungs, and I dont know what it is. To find out what exactly it is, you would have to be on your death bed to get insurance to pay for testing.. until then you need to stay on these meds" I had been on 3 years of constant Prednisone prescriptions which eroded my hips and caused a phenomenal weight gain and other side effects. The constant Levoquin scripts caused hearing loss and vestibular damage. Fast forward 6 months and my primary care doctor ( the one he had repeatedly made slights about), finally restored my confidence to the degree that I sought out more expert care at Mt Sinai Immunology. One simple blood test identified the disorder. Since that time, I have not experienced even a tenth of the illness I had under his "care". This man is as egomaniacal as anyone I have ever met and I have worked in… locked down psych units!!! PLEASE PLEASE Chose another doctor.

The pity is that most people who are placed in his care do not have the ability to express their wishes and as such regardless of the patient's chances of survival, he does his very best to convince the family to let the patient die. Moreover, it truly appears that he gets sadistic pleasure in telling family members that their loved one is going to die.He must have some stranglehold on the executive director and president of the hospital to still be working and in charge of the hospital vent uniy at the advanced age of 78. One day he will be intubated Hopefully against his will and will be cared for by the nurses in his unit whom he mistreated. AN ARROGANT egotistical self centered immoral excuse for a man.

My wife was admitted to Staten Island university Hospital oct 28 after 12 days in icu she was transferred to vent unit Dr Castellano is the lead doctor there he takes his time to address every issue He also wants to know his patients personal history children living arrangements food likes etc He and his team work with care and compassion and my wife is making great progress I can’t thank this team enough Also the icu unit everyone there was very committed to get her the best outcome possible Even the gentleman from housekeeping asked about her progress each day!!

I have been a patient of Dr. Castellano since 1972. He seems gruff at first but it is because he wants you to understand you must contribute to your well being. When I have been hospitalized he has always treated me kindly. He spends as much time with you as you need. He has been named one of the best pulmonary speciaist in NY metro area for many years. . If you have any kind of pulmonary problem, I suggest you go to him-he is a kind, concerned expert.

write to albany and get his medical license revoked, Save lives.

Please write to Albany. Office of professional medical conduct and complain. And he will lose his medical license. So many of you know this man. His mental illness and the loved one he took from you. Get closure. This is the secret to getting him for free.

This doctor has no bedside manners at all . He is so rude and needs to know how to talk to patients and family members to. I heard stories about him and they are so true . I feel when you do rounds with the other doctors you should show respect to the patient and family and take a moment to introduce them self. My dogs vet has better manners bottom line this doctor thinks he's above everyone . I feel when you are a doctor and people look to you for help and answers try to be human and treat the patients the way you would want your self or family treated with kindness , respect, . That's my review I think this doctor is so disrespectful.

My mom was in CCU unit. Dr. Castellano and his CREW, would visit moms room and talk among themselves. He decided to give mom a test but in order for the test she needed to be on a ventilator. She never came off, and the test results were fine. If not for this test she'd still be here. The day before her death, she was moved to the vent unit. It was a dark and dingy closet room. It was dirty and the nurses were disrespectful. It was a horrible room. I guess this is where they put you when they don't care what happens to you. Avoid this place at all costs!!!

I feel this Doctor is excellent at what he does.I took my father to him and thought his bedside manner was very very abrupt and cold with family,as for with my father he was very caring, my father liked him very much.Now,that my dad has passed I think back and understand why he was so direct and appeared cold, he was trying to make us understand that quality of life is very important not to subject him to a life on a machine.unfortunatley I do feel the vent unit care is not what he believes it is. I do not think he is aware of the staff which can be very cold towards the patients.My father was in the vent unit the first day and unsedated while one nurse was yelling at him to follow commands as my father was strapped down to the bed.she complained that he was uncooperative, how horrible this experience was for him without the comfort of his family by his side,we immediately had him taken off the vent in fear that he would be mistreated thankfully he was able at that point to breathe on… his own I think the staff needs more supervision from the nurse managers there. Also, more care for the patients who are so helpless.

My mother was in the Vent Unit at Staten Island University Hospital. I prefer to refer to it as Dr. Castellanos Death unit. He told me I had no hope for my mother and that death was eminent. Well I got her out of Staten Island into St. Francis Hospital with real doctors and p.s. she is alive and well and living life to the fullest! Shame on you Dr. Castellano.
