Dr. Michael Edward Charness, MD

I saw Dr. Michael Charness at the music clinic at Brigham and Women’s Hospital for hand pain. My appointment was beyond a joke, this doctor was smug and offered no substance. I came to get expert medical treatment and left with what amounted to a handout that could be summed up by saying “if it hurts, don’t do it” and worse pain than I came with, that I am still recovering from after manual hand tests. I could not ever recommend this to any serious musician. Literally, run, do not walk, from this department. I can’t speak to the other clinicians. The check-in was also inappropriate. My visit was a surreal nightmare. Under no circumstances should musicians seek care from this physician, and perhaps from this clinic.

Dr. Michael Charness takes all the time and expertise necessary to evaluate a patient's situation. I went to the Performing Arts Program as a musician with an elbow problem. He and his team were excellent in the work up and gave me a treatment plan. I would recommend him to any musician who needs care of this type. Highly recommended.

Dr. Charness completely misdiagnosed me a few years ago. Send me on a useless round of seeing numerous neurologists when I had nothing neurologically wrong, but instead a lesion causing pain. Because of him and other sub-standard doctors who did not order proper imaging or apply common sense problem solving skills, I suffered years of mistreatment and a worsening condition.

Dr. Charness is one of the best doctors I've experienced across the board, and successfully treated me for an issue other doctors could not seem to diagnose. He is caring, patient, accessible, and has a great staff working for him. Highly recommended!
