I joined HealthPartners Medical Group in 2006. I specialize in treatment of shoulder and knee injuries with an emphasis on Sports Medicine Injuries and Arthroscopic procedures, as well as complex shoulder and knee reconstruction and joint replacement. I am also specially trained to care for cartilage and meniscal injuries in the knee. I am Board Certified in Orthopaedic Surgery and a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine, Thomas B. Quigley Sports Medicine Society, as well as Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society. I completed my residency in orthopedic surgery at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City and went on to do my training with team physicians for the New York Jets, New York Rangers, and New York Islanders professional sports teams. I have authored several book chapters, technique guides, and journal articles on ACL reconstruction, rehabilitation of knee injuries, and cartilage transplantation procedures in the knee. I have also …served as a master instructor for the Arthroscopy Association of North America, the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine, and the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons.

I live in St. Paul with my wife and son. In my spare time I enjoy golfing, cooking, and wine tasting, but most importantly, enjoying time spent with my family.

Had Rotator Cuff reattachment surgery, he is efficient, expert, takes time with the patient to be sure of clarity of understanding between doctor and patient. excellent work as a surgeon

I have been a patient as well as worked with this man. Very abusive. Also only cares about himself. Do not let him fool you. If you only new what goes on while he performs surgery. You would probably sue him!!

My primary care physician recommended that I see Dr. D'Amato for a full thickness rotator cuff tear and I implicitly trust his opinion. Dr. D'Amato spent an adequate amount of time with me to explain what treatment was needed and what I should expect with my recovery. He answered all of my questions and never rushed me. He is a highly qualified professional and I feel fortunate to have his specialized expertise in the operating room. I don't understand the bad reviews people have written here because my experience was exceptionally positive with this physician and I am also an RN. I have been a member of Health Partners for 30+ years and I have always had care that exceeds my expectations by every physician I have seen. I would highly recommend Dr. D'Amato to anyone.

Dr. D'Amato was courteous, professional and thorough. He helped me with my shoulder pain. I would recommend him without hesitation to family and friends. My appointment time was late, however I never worry about that. I sure that he was being thorough with someone else and I appreciate him for that. I always bring something to read and relax while I'm waiting.

This Doctor does not listen, cuts you off in mid-sentence when you have questions. Likes to have residents with him and show off in front of them (put on airs). Has your standard cliche god complex and thinks he knows everything. He simply will not listen. The most obnoxious and egregious and irking thing is, when he decides the appointment is long enough, he will just get up and walk to the door whether you are finished or not. This is a systemic problem with the entire Health Partners Specialty Clinic, but he is the worse. I will be looking for a new Doctor, one with some empathy and a little courtesy and decency. I am sick and tired of arrogant doctors.
