Dr. Michael Francis Dangelo, MD

He is very knowledgeable and personable, taking time to answer questions, explain tests and treatment options, very gentle and thoughtful during procedures. That said, it is good that HOF supports his practice, because his staff may quite well be capable of ruining it. When asked by a staff person during a test about doing kegel exercises, I answered honestly that compliance with frequency was an issue; her response was "oh, so you just want surgery- to take the easy way out!" How DARE she assume that I think surgery is EASY?? She had met me only moments before and had minimal knowledge about my life, history and attitudes! The implication of laziness and the presence of fat-shaming was NOT welcome! After another appointment when I was asked to provide a urine specimen for culture, I very much later discovered that the staff had sent it out to a lab OUTSIDE my insurance network... And THAT resulted in a bill of $50 that I was required to pay out of pocket... I am recently new to… disability and a fixed income... $50 is important! I called and asked if there was a clinical reason why my usual lab was not used- I never received a return call or explanation. The staff DEFINATELY needs re-arranged!!! But I want to be CLEAR that when I met Dr. D'Angelo, I trusted him immediately and found him to be very personable and patient with a goal of excellency in patient care and service. I just wish his staff shared those standards!

Scheduled for a 11:15 am appointment but not taken back until 12:30pm. Not very happy about that

Dr. D'Angelo is very nice and probably a good doctor, but he has a lot to learn about running a business. Office waiting times are ridiculous. My husband had an x-ray for a kidney stone on Friday and as of today, Tuesday, we have yet to hear from him even though we've called several times. Also, his surgery center is staffed by inexperienced people. They don't know how to close a catheter or how to flush one out. You'd think a surgery center for a urologist would at least have nurses who can do that. We would not recommend.

It was a few years ago that I was referred to Dr. D'Angelo. My PSA was 5.5....4.0 seems to be the "magic" number requiring attention. I had the biopsy performed and found out I have prostate cancer. At the time I was 52 year of age. When he told me it was a cold and machine like explanation. We use the robotic methods to basically remove your prostate. Little was said about the risk of side affects. He said I can take you next Tuesday. Cost is $20,000. I was a bit bewildered at the business end approach. I went home and began to do a lot of research on the side affects of a prostectomy. It was not a pretty story. I educated myself with the help of my primary care physician. I found alternative treatments were available. Two weeks later I visited D'Angelo to discuss the research my doctor and I had performed. He basically said "we don't do that here. Good luck." And he was out the room so fast I could not even finish. It was a 2 minute visit [after waiting 1-1/2 hours]. That is when I… had the realization it is all about the $$$. Apparently Specialists had sold out their practice to 21st Century Oncology. The docs had an employment contract with 21st. If you bring in the revenue as a 21st urologist you get paid for the buyout. Now that 21st is nearing bankruptcy I understand why D'Angelo did what he did. It's not about patient care. It's about the money. Sad but true. It's probably not his fault. He did what he had to do for himself. But the Hypocratic Oath seems to mean nothing anymore.

Dr. D'Angelo is a very poor excuse for a urologist. Dr. D'Angelo never counsels his patience before he sends his patient to 21st century oncology where he has investment. Never concerned about the health of a patient.

Horrible wait times and keeping appointment times

They take the time to discuss my concerns and questions. There information is genuine and informative. which assist me in making decisions regarding my heath conditions. There personal attention is a rare commodity in today's medical environment.

I was diagnosed with prostate cancer. Dr. D claims robotic surgery takes an hour and a half! Really? This type of surgery takes up to 4-5 hours because of intricacy. I thankfully went to Johns Hopkins for robotic prostatectomy. Continent the day I walked away from catheter removal (8 days after surgery). Nerves were spared. I've known a handful of men in Naples who have never regained continence or been sexually potent after surgery at this facility. (I personally know one friend who has been through 11 surgeries with this group and has never been the same!) The group and Dr. D'Angelo could not or would not tell me what their "negative margin" average is with all the surgeries they claim to have performed. I was told that if a doctor fails to tell you this or if it's not less than 10%, RUN! I did run and for that am eternally grateful. Other comments about long waits, sometimes over an hour, are true. "Assembly line" feel is accurate of the office. Dr. D'Angelo will see… you if pressed, but he relies on young P.A.'s to do most of his office work (at least that was my experience). I would not send my dog to this outfit for treatment, surgery, or care. If you live in Naples, go somewhere else! If you want to inquire from elsewhere, don't.

Dr. D"Angelo is a great communicator at every junction of your care, from diagnosis to procedural choices to outcomes and follow-up. He fully answers your questions on a level you understand.
