Treats me like an adult and explains whatever he is treating me for - good at following up himself, not an office staff person

Dr. Essig is kind, caring, competent. Everything I could hope for in a PCP. It is convenient for me to go to appointments at lunch as well because they are located downtown near my work. Dr. Essig is a great listener and will take as much time as necessary to address any concerns his patients may have. That may mean that he runs a little behind schedule but I think that every patient who goes for an appointment would appreciate that their doctor takes all the time necessary to listen rather than trying to rush people out the door. My only concern is that he no longer rounds on his patients that have to be hospitalized so if you have to be admitted you will either get his partner or a doctor from another group that you likely never saw before. Also, he is only doing office appointments on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays so it can take a little time to get an appointment scheduled, especially if it is just for a check-up/medication refill and not an acute illness/injury/issue. All… in all though, Dr. Essig is the best and I will stick with him as long as he is still in practice.

Doctor is great but receptionists are painful to deal with. They are unfriendly, impatient and treated you like they don't have time to talk to you. I had to wait for 30 mins even though I arrived on my appointment time promptly. After appointment, they delayed in every follow up actions and I have to keep calling for status updates. I wish I could have gone to other clinic.

My appointment was scheduled the week I called. The cost was lower than the other offices performing USCIS exams. I had my completed paperwork the day of my second appointment. The return (second) visit is necessary to complete the tuberculosis test. Everything was done very efficiently. Very happy with the service. I am considering a switch to this doctor for my regular health care. He seems to be competent.

I would recommend DR Essig's to everyone. He's very caring and a great doctor.

I have a thyroid problem and at first I thought Dr. Essig was one of the best PCP I've ever had because he actually explains my test results. However, upon research, it now appears that he isn't aggressively trying to get my levels in line with the ideal and new normal numbers. I am never stable and when we do change my prescription, there's never a 3-6 week follow up. I'm going to try to get pregnant soon and I'm worried that because of my TSH levels, I'm not going to be able to. He's a very caring doctor and I would go to him for a cold/flu, etc but I'm now turning to a endocrinologist for my thyroid issues.

Dr Essig was really nice but his staff were really curt, it made you feel like they were doing you a huge favor to fill in some really basic paperwork that costs a bomb...but hey, I guess those are the perks of being a civil surgeon. Then if you need to have an X ray done, you get it done the same day either at his office, or at Mercy (which he then promises that he will look at asap) and get information off to the health department by the weekend. You wait a week and a half for the phone call from the health dept, only to find out it took Dr Essig or his staff a week to look at your X ray and get your stuff off to the health department in a timely fashion. SLOW service. Calling the clinic does nothing as they even after 2 calls, they don't call you back after a few hours. It is much more efficient and the people you speak to are actually nicer if you just call the health department straight. If you are applying for immigration papers, don't go to this guy because his office will hold… up your process.

Dr. Essig is caring, understanding, knowledgeable and has a great bedside manner. The girl at the front desk could be friendlier, but I love this doctor and he is plenty friendly for the both of them.

Dr. Essig is a wonderful doctor. He takes time with you in understanding your symptoms and makes the appropriate diagnosis. He has an excellent bedside manner and explains your diagnosis so you understand everything. He is absolutely wonderful.
