Five years ago, I had a small external skin tag removed in a simple in office procedure under local lidocaine injections at a Dr. Hunt’s office in Paradise for $900. That doctor has since retired. In just the last year, I had a full-blown, grade 4+ external hemorrhoid appear in the same spot where that skin tag had been removed, five years before. I knew that it, too, could be just as easily addressed with a “stick , snip, and a stitch”. So, since Dr. Hunt had retired, I got a referral from my primary doctor to supposed hemorrhoid specialist, Dr. Tran.
Dr. Tran completely mislead me into a colorectal procedure he knew full well would not address the issue that concerned me most- the visible hemorrhoid. When he examined me at the consultation, he told me that he could take care of it with a banding procedure. He did not tell me it was an external hemorrhoid that was not eligible for banding and also which he was not qualified to remove surgically. When I woke up from the… procedure, all he had done was an internal banding and he had done nothing to help me with the external issue that troubled me so much. He knew full well he wasn’t going to do anything to help me with that and yet he completely mislead me into going forward with the banding procedure. What Dr. Tran should have done was to refer me to a surgeon who could’ve done both the internal banding and the external tissue, or at least just the external removal surgery which was all I was worried about at the time..
Also, his staff incorrectly tried to bill me for a banding procedure they kept trying to tell me took place during the consultation. But banding never took place at the time of the consultation because I could barely tolerate his three second examination and we had determined that any banding would require me to be completely sedated. So I set up the surgery date with his front office and later got a bill for the banding procedure as if it had already taken place. So, as they kept refusing to correct it, and as I repeatedly tried to tell them I would end up getting double billed for it by the time of my then upcoming surgery date, I had to spend a total of four hours with different departments getting that billing code error fixed. Marisol, his assistant, couldn’t have been more indifferent and difficult to work with. However, they finally got the billing code corrected once I got Sarah Page of their office staff involved. There was no way I was going to pay nearly $600 just for him looking at my butt for three seconds when I’m a self pay cash patient. Then, after all of that, and discovering I still had this issue that was troubling me so much, it took forever to get a referral to Dr. Fealk, who IS a surgeon and who IS qualified to remove external hemorrhoids. When I saw Fealk, his office charged me $150 cash- upfront -for the examination and consultation, after which he sent me to his secretary who sets up surgery dates. They wanted to do a full blown, hospital surgery suite procedure under general anesthesia and charge me $17,000 for a procedure I knew full well could be done under local lidocaine, in-office, for so much cheaper!!!!
Not only that, today I get a letter from Enloe threatening to send me to collections if I don’t send another $60.46 to that Dr. Fealk who did absolutely nothing but take my $150 cash and look at my butt for three seconds before wanting to set me up for a $17,000 highway robbery!!! That’s probably why am so hopping mad and on fire writing this review right now.
I am so disenchanted with all of Enloe’s colorectal specialists. They are greedy, dishonest and running a racket, trying to take advantage of people..They have no concern for my preferences and zero sensitivity for my finances. Shame on you Enloe Colorectal!!!
In the end (heheh), I found a “butt doctor to the stars” in Thousand Oaks, CA (Dr. Rosenfeld), and he removed all three external hems in-office, with only local anesthesia injections, for just $5000!!! I did have to stay in a hotel for a week down there just for safe measures, BUTT it still ended up being so much cheaper than what shameless Dr. Fealk of Enloe wanted to charge me.
I am so disenchanted with all of Enloe’s colorectal specialists. They are greedy and it’s a racket and they have no concern for my preferences and zero sensitivity for my finances. Shame on you Enloe Colorectal. I will shout it from the mountain tops for people to look elsewhere when they have similar issues to my own. How dare you try to charge me $17,000 for such a simple procedure, especially when I am a self pay cash patient?????????
Thank goodness, through my own hunting and the goodness of a scrupulous and caring doctor in SoCal, of all places, (Dr. David Rosenfeld) who was willing to literally ‘cut’ me a better deal, there was finally a light at the end of the tunnel and I was able to nip this thing in the butt and finally rectify that BUMmer of a SITuation. All’s well that ENDS well and I’m so glad to get this all BEHIND me. Sorry, I don’t mean to be CRACKing jokes with CHEEKy humor about something so serious, BUTT, in the final ANALysis, you should always ASSume the worst about bloated Big Gov run hospitals, and opt for a privately owned and operated facility with a board certified physician. They will treat you like an intelligent human being who has choices, instead of prodding you like cattle on a conveyor belt on your way to slaughter. YOU HAVE CHOICES!!! This is STILL America, no matter how hard the enemy tries to destroy it. Shame on you Enloe Colorectal for bending people over and ___________________(fill in the blank) !!!!! I’m ripping you a new one so you can have more exit avenues through which your service charges can flow.
(I had to wedge that in.)
Now. After all that stinking thinking, how about some relevant levity?
