Dr. Michael Paul Gruber, MD

Five years ago Dr. Gruber replaced my left hip. I was riding my horse 3 months later. He and his PA were awesome and all my questions were answered. I am now preparing for my right hip replacement. Dr. Gruber again my choice for surgery. Thanks to all GA bone staff.

I felt like I had been through a quicke car wash. The X-ray technician was rude talked to fast and was exasperated and blew her breath out in frustration because I could not do her commands instantly. Never introduced herself( first thing you learn in nursing school, introduce yourself) never heard a please or thank you. Dr . GRUBER also did not introduce hiself , spent 10 minutes with me and us in the summary. When I arrived I was about a level 8 pain and the same when I left. He stated I had a Bakers cyst behind my knee and possible meniscal tear. Offered nothing for relief at home pain has been a 10 / many times started to go to ER. He scheduled me for MRI. End of visit. Very bad bedside manners. I would never refer anyone to him and I won’t be going back either. The PA was very kind and considerate and she is the only Reason I give them a 1 out of 5 stars

I was concerned after reading all the reviews.. but I have to say that Dr Gruber was very kind, considerate and very professional.. He took the time to address my concerns. I look forward to going back and pursuing a fix for my knees.

Run from this doctor! Extremely long wait times (over an hour and a half), comes into room doesn't even look at you just his back is towards you while he is on his computer. Disregards your issues/complaints, short and out he goes. Very bad bedside manners, arrogant and was rushed. Prescribed wrong boot for me according to another ortho doctor I found after him. Do not recommend for any ortho needs.

Won’t recommend this doctor. Worst bedside manners. He does surgery but really don’t care about your recovery

This doctor did surgery on me, which later became sepsis. Had to remove plate and screws and go for strong antibiotics. While in the hospital, I met two other patients that were there for the same reason. SEPSI'S from this Dr's negligence!! This Dr needs to be barred!! I can relate to all these comments. He's rude, arrogant, in and out, unconcerned and I wouldn't recommend him to my worst enemy!!

My experience with gruber was the worst experience in my life time. I got a total knee replacement from him and rather than getting better, I got worse and worse, I was in great pain, he seemed to not believe me and just dismissed my complaints, finally after weeks of pain, he took a blood test which revealed my knee was infected, he had me in the hospital to remove the prostheses the next day, where upon he replaced it with a temporary knee made of cement, I also had a pic line that dispensed antibiotics to my heart for 2 months(the first antibiotic he ordered was a derivative of pennecilan, which he was told I was allergic to, so I had a bad allergic reaction), after those months he inserted another protheses which contained nickel, I tested positive to being allergic to nickel, many people are allergic to nickel, he should have tested me prior to putting it inside my body! The last time I saw him he said the knee replacement “ had to come out”. And gave me the name of another… orthopedist and walked away. I went to see his recommended doctor and he told me the infection had eaten away too much bone and there was nothing he could do, I had to live with the discomfort, and if I ever got another infection I could lose my leg! I consequently saw two more highly recommended Emory orthopededists who echoed the same diagnosis. Gruber saw my X-ray he knew there was not enough bone to work with, but he was too chicken to tell me face to face. He ruined my life, I live in constant pain, I no longer can run, play tennis, or snow ski all the things I lived to do. He never even had courage to apologize for not listening to my complaints of pain, he gave me the name of another doctor to tell me horrible news. Don’t let this man touch you, run away while you can still run.

My 13 yr. old daughter was referred to him for an orthopedic evaluation, by an urgent care center, after almost 2 weeks of knee pain in her left knee that wasn't getting better. Her injury was sustained while playing soccer. After describing in detail what my daughter had been experiencing and looking at the MRI that had been ordered, he told us that my daughter had a stress fracture and recommended appropriate treatment. The radiologist however had said that the MRI was completely normal and refused to agree that there was a stress fracture. Four days later, we returned to his office, still in severe pain, having done what he prescribed and not seeing any change or improvement. He asked me if my daughter was having problems at school, implying that she was possibly just making it up to get out of school. I am formed him that my daughter was not making it up and that she was not having problems at school. I suggested to him that it might be time to get a second opinion… because doctors had been wrong when it came to my daughter before. He very rudely informed me that he didn't expect that any doctor would see anything he hadn't, and that it wouldn't hurt his feelings if I got a second opinion. So trusting his opinion I took my daughter home kept her out of school and rested her knee for a total of four days over a weekend. Within her first two days back at school she was back in severe pain again at which point I contacted another orthopedic for a second opinion. After explaining to them the exact same symptoms to them that I had explained to Dr. Gruber, they evaluated my daughters knee, duplicating the pain that we had expressed to them she had been experiencing. They told us they knew exactly what was causing her pain and she would need Physical Therapy. They looked at the exact same images and said there was no evidence of stress fracture (or Osgood Schlotters... Another possible diagnosis offered by Dr. Gruber when he couldn't figure out what was going on with my daughter) and that the radiologist was correct. They also said that she should have been started on physical therapy right away and that she would probably already be better, had that happened. after just one full week of physical therapy my daughter was able to get off the crutches that she had been using for almost a month. She is an extremely athletic soccer player, playing elite level soccer, and will hopefully get back to it within the next week. I would not recommend Dr. Gruber in anyway as both his bedside manner and his medical ability seem to be lacking.

Dr. Gruber has an impressive knowledge of his specialty. He can immediately go to the source of the problem, identify the name of the malady and the muscles/joints without hesitation and decide on a course of action. He is efficient and respectful of my time. He delivers on what is the most important to me -- my health and well-being. I would recommend him unconditionally.
