Dr. Michael Joseph Hogan, MD

Went to this Dr for uncontrolled high blood pressure (160 to 180 / 105), a level that alarms Drs who know what they are doing as having uncontrolled high blood pressure like this constantly will shorten your life greatly. His advise of what to do: Do not take your blood pressure, only do it when you visit the Dr (every 3-6 months). I guess that way we don't know how high it is and if we don't know we don't have to take any medicines - oh, wait, that is how people die young. Eat salt, just don't eat something that tastes really salt (this was after he was told that eating 1000mg of salt did increase my blood pressure by 20 points). We all know how we don't "taste" the salt in bread and other foods, so basically he was saying don't eat a big bag of salty potato chips but anything else was fine. Exercise less and make it easy. He said do not exercise 30-60 minutes 4-5 times a week, only do a 10 minute walk in the mornings. Boy that goes against everything we know about heart… health. Do not drink water, we don't need to drink water ever, only if we are really thirsty. We live in a desert and he is saying do not every drink water? He didn't care about looking at labs or running tests or looking at the history. He didn't seem to care that blood pressure readings at his office were high. We left to never come back and found a better Dr. That Dr luckily did some medicine adjustments and ran tests. I was in Afib. Referred to a Cardiologist who with tests discovered a leaky heart valve and adjusted medicines so my blood pressure now is about 130 to 140, much better. Hogan seems to think he knows better than everyone, including the patient, cardiologists, and other Drs, but he will give you advise that will severely shorten your life when he could easily, with minimum care help. As I said, Run from this Doctor.

Dr Hogan did not review my records and told me not to bother with the history questionsire. Went to Mayo for diagnosis of a severe, debilitating condition which was not attempted. Racked up ridiculous charges for things most docs don't do (re-read mri for $500 each!). Took 3 calls to get lab results, still waiting for the print out promised over a week ago. Caution s/b taken re: referrals for unnecessary services/referrals. Diagnosticans they are NOT!

Dr. Hogan is a hard-headed, rude man. He does not listen to you nor does he take the time to review any history you send him. He is condescending and nearly insulting at all points of your visit with him. This includes everything from history to diagnosis. Or more likely, to the lack of diagnosis he will give you. It is no wonder that a diagnosis is hard to receive from this doctor considering the fact that he neither listens to you nor takes the time to do a proper "work up" on you. By the end of your appointment you will have listened more to him tell you about why he is such a great doctor then he will have listened to you about why you came in. I would NEVER recommend this doctor to anyone for anything unless you want to waste your time.
