He was very arrogant, condescending, and unempathetic. He didn’t give any effort or thought to the possibility that my problem didn’t fit the regular checked boxes. I’ve been thankful, that for other otolaryngology issues, that I was treated by one of the top five ranked otolaryngology departments in the nation and had surgeries performed by the head of the Department of Otolaryngology at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. This doctor was definitely NOT like any of those doctors. I recommend you research doctors you’re considering because I dropped the ball on this one. One example of his arrogance was that at one point, he felt the need to remind me that HE WAS THE DOCTOR. I recommend seeing someone else.

Visited Dr. Hopfenspirger back in 2021 for chronic sinus infections and what I thought was post nasal drip. After explaining my concerns to the nurse, she spoke with him where he then came into my room and made it sound as though I just had health anxiety and diagnosed me with silent acid reflux. He barely looked at my nose or my tonsils and sent me on my merry way. I had never felt so neglected by a doctor before. Fast forward three years, I found an AMAZING ENT who examined my tonsils, stuck a camera up my nose, and got me a CT Scan. After he reviewed all of this, he apologized on behalf of my last ENT that these easy findings were not caught. I now need tonsil surgery, sinus surgery, and a rhinoplasty. These were what were contributing to my symptoms, and the good news is I don’t have silent acid reflux. In my experience as a woman, I would recommend looking elsewhere for an ENT.

Dr. Hopfenspirger showed no regard for my well-being in any of my appointments, or even on the day of the surgery. Should I ever need an ENT doctor again, I will be finding someone new.
