Dr. Michael Scott Irwig, MD

After 6 years of successful testosterone treatment, I was blindsided by a transfer to Dr. Irwig who completely disregarded my medical history. Despite KNOWING topical testosterone had failed me before, he arrogantly insisted on switching me from my working injectable treatment with zero discussion. He talked over me constantly, skipped standard physical exams, and treated my concerns with complete contempt. His dismissive attitude and stubborn refusal to listen forced me to find a new doctor. Save yourself the frustration - this doctor has absolutely no respect for his patients' experiences or input. There's a reason I'm not the only patient who's left his care

After 6 years of consistent and successful testosterone injection treatment with my previous doctor, I had a disappointing consultation with Dr. Irwig. Without thoroughly discussing my medical history or reasons for preferring injections, he abruptly changed my prescription to a topical roll-on. When I attempted to discuss my concerns about changing a long-standing treatment that was working well for me, I found the communication challenging. I would have appreciated a more collaborative approach to my care, especially given my extensive history with this treatment plan.

He never took the time to tell me what the side effects of taking testosterone would be

Dr irwig knows endocrinology. He is attentive compassionate and understanding. He is an ally of the trans community and an advocate. He is the best specialist that I have encountered.

Dr. has twice cancelled appointments for no reason. I showed up to one appointment only to be told that the doctor had cancelled my appointment (same day cancellation) and not notified me.

Very dissatisfied with his understanding of current medical literature and current practice on treating thyroidism. Purely a stats reader, no ability to address issues that don't show in stats. Just not a good doctor. No follow up either. In and out and goodbye is the practice.

After reading the reviews that specifically mention diabetes care, I can't help but think that he doesn't particularly enjoy taking care of diabetes patients, and so doesn't give the time or attention that he gives to people with other endocrine problems. I have been with him for two years, but every time I go to him he pawns me off on the Nurse Practitioner there.My diabetes is not fully managed, so I would rather see him since I must change my dosage, etc so often.

Dr Irwig is very knowledgable, but his bedside manner is lacking. For someone who works with a lot of trans clients, I'd think he'd be more accepting. I've seen him several times, and will likely see him again since he is so knowledgable, but he didn't make me feel comfortable. He comes across as patronizing and condescending. I appreciate that he sits and leans forward in my general direction when taking my history, but it comes off as creepy instead of engaging. I actually prefer when he has his head in the computer and just types up what I've been saying. I also found it rather off putting how much he talks about himself and touts his accomplishments. It is great that he is working so hard, but I would rather spend that time discussing my health problems. All that being said, he seems knowledgable and has generally given me good advice.

I was referred to Dr. Irwig with a rare adrenal gland condition. Under his care for several years now, I feel confident that he has the expertise to treat me. He has also been flexible in responding to my occasional requests for blood work when I was feeling poorly and didn't know that I had to go in for an appointment. He has ordered and read tests, and called me with results and sometimes a change in my prescription, and all without an office visit or copay. He isn't warm and fuzzy but with a rare condition it's most important to me that the doc knows his/her stuff and is responsive.
