Dr. Michael Walter Johnson, MD

My husband had his wisdom teeth removed by Dr. Johnson, and went in multiple times afterward complaining of intense pain. This was far after the pain should have subsided, according to their paperwork. There was clearly something wrong, and Dr. Johnson sent my husband home with painkillers on multiple occasions. He was unable to work for a long period of time because of the pain that he was in and because of the painkillers he needed to take (he worked as a firefighter). While traveling to California for personal reasons, he developed a huge cyst right in the spot that he'd been complaining of pain. He had it drained in urgent care, and then visited Dr. Johnson's office immediately upon our return (which had been delayed due to treating the cyst). Dr. Johnson drained the cyst and sent him home with painkillers. We got a second opinion from an ENT who ordered a CT scan which showed there was an infection in his jaw. Dr. Johnson is the only oral surgeon in the area so he was the one who… had to operate. We were charged a large amount of money for the operation, even though it could have been avoided had Dr. Johnson taken my husband's concerns more seriously. I set up a payment plan with the office, and after realizing I wasn't being charged I called and was informed that my credit card info had been lost. I gave them a new CC # and made various payments. Finally, I found that we were in a difficult spot financially and would have to pay one of the payments late. I called to discuss this with the office and Jennifer Johnson told me that my card had been declined, which was untrue, and that she simply did not believe I would be making any payments. I had my mom send her an email asking for documentation of declined payments and anything related. Jennifer called me and said, "I was going to write off the balance, but I won't now because of that email. If you send me a new email saying that you won't take legal action, I will write off the balance." I sent her an email saying exactly that, and got no response. We went in in person to ask, and she stated that she now had to involve her layer as I threatened legal action - which I never did! I said exactly what she told me to say. Over a month later, we got the documents we requested, and the account notes were very blatantly falsified and altered to make it look as if my husband had somehow caused the infection himself (he was extremely diligent about keeping it clean and going in for checkups!). She also sent a very long aggressive email saying things such as, "I am not certain if either of you, or Mr. T*** have a medical degree, most importantly, one that specializes in oral and maxillofacial surgery?" Ultimately, she did write off the account, but I fully believe that she did that and falsified the documents so as to absolve Dr. Johnson (her husband?) of any blame. Interestingly, she sent her aggressive email the day after the passing of my family member who had seen Dr. Johnson multiple times about what ultimately was diagnosed as mouth cancer but was dismissed by Dr. Johnson. Dr. Johnson is a poor doctor and his office manager Jennifer is an aggressive liar trying to cover for his mistakes.

Working in a local dentist office I had prior knowledge and respect for Dr. Johnson. Being on the patient side with my daughter's surgery I found him just as professional, caring and skilled. Love him and his staff!

I had a TMJ replacement and it failed in one year due to the doctorâ??s incompetence. This was proved and is in the Durango court records. Please do your homework before selecting this doctor to operate on you. The doctor has a bad hidden track record.
