Dr. Michael D Kasten, MD

Dr. Kasten did major surgery on my wife’s back, He spent all the time with her she needed and explained everything well. He was caring, friendly, and seemed to really care about her. I would recommend him to anyone.

I went here 3 times with my daughter 2nd visit wanted mri both times said she would need surgery.the third visit he totally changed his story told us his daughter had “back pain” and she’s fine now. So pretty much just for my daughter to deal with it when she has many issues proven with mri. I’m glad we didn’t continue because by reviews he’s made people’s back worse. I should’ve have went to a pediatric spinal dr first. He’s not even good with adults. I don’t think he liked me asking why he changed his mind. I think he knew he didn’t have enough expertise.

Multiple surgeries have not repaired the damage he was sure he could fix the first time. Reassurance abounded that we could 'get it done' but yet here I sit with more pain and less functional ability. Do not utilize this man, I am not the only patient who has had poor outcomes.

Orthopedic surgeons should not operate on the spine. See a neurosurgeon. This man is a fraud. He will worsen your spinal problems and convince you to additional surgeries to repair the damage he has caused. He’s lining his pockets immobilizing patients. I am a wife of a critical care anesthesiologist. My father was a victim of Dr. Kasten’s. He is unable to walk after 3 surgeries. His neurosurgeon is appalled at what was done.

I lived on vicodin because of back and leg pain for over a year. A second opinion from U of M told me nothing further could be done for me, learn to live with the pain. Then I saw Dr. Kasten. He said I was about the worse case of deteriorated disc he had seen up to that time. Since the day after surgery I have had absolutely NO back pain. That was over 10 years ago!!!

We were an hour early that's why the wait. LOL!

Dr. Kasten was there for both me and my family. He kept them informed about all stages of my treatment or care.

I have had two surgeries done by Dr. Kasten. I believe he is extremely talented.

I went in with spinal stenosis and 24 years post laminectomy. He was very upfront about what I could expect as far a pain relief-50-80%. Physicians are not God, and the outcome can vary substantially from patient to patient. Five months post-op for a 2 level fusion, I am hovering around 60% improvement which is certainly within the expected parameters.I would heartily recommend him without hesitation, but patients need to be realistic with with their expectations,which seems to rarely be the case, especially over the age of 40. Your back will never be like it was when you were twenty-he is not a time machine. Very pleased. I will most probably need future surgery and I hope he does not retire before that time!

Dr Kasten is competent in his surgical proceedures. He explained the procedure, the materials, x-Rays that validate need for surgery and the results of the surgery , risks, time line in detail. He explained alternatives and offered reasons of choosing one technique over another.He took the time to explain and answer all of my questions and concerns. He assured me that he would answer any and all questions as they arise.
