Dr. Michael Steven Kessler, MD

I did not have a positive experience at Dr. Kessler’s office, both during my office visits and during labor/delivery. During my appointments, Dr. Kessler made me feel rushed and unheard. I felt like I was bothering him by asking questions about my care or expressing my anxieties being pregnant during a pandemic. During my (unmedicated) birth, I had a moment of “omg-I can’t do this.” He was condescending and rude telling me I was “pushing wrong.” Luckily my nurses were awesome. It’s hard enough only having one support person (due to COVID) so having a doctor be insensitive in that moment was uncalled for. I heard him tell a nurse during my delivery that “this is his chance to yell back at his patients”. My baby was delivered safely, which is all that matters, but I would not recommend to moms-to-be who are looking for a nurturing doctor. Also, his office did not contact me for any post partum appointment.

Dr. Kessler helped me safely deliver my high risk baby, battle & overcome mastitis TWICE, deal with thrush, and also help me treat postpartum depression He is extremely knowledgeable and can spout off statistics for most anything you ask him off the top of his head. As an avid researcher myself (I am a self proclaimed Dr. Google) it is important to me to know all the risks/benefits of anything I am going through. A true strength of Dr. Kessler’s is that he balances modern medicine with holistic approaches that are all deeply rooted in evidence based research. I am presented with a toolbox of options that he and I can discuss together to determine what is best for me and baby, both in utero and after delivery. I had high risk condition that often times results in c-section or the baby going into distress. I was able to avoid both of those scenarios during my delivery experience. I live within 10minutes of Danbury Hospital which is known for having an amazing NICU and Labor &… Delivery team, but I purposely travel all the way to Griffin Hospital in Derby for Dr. Kessler. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

After my experience today I will not be returning to this office. The only reason I’m giving 2 stars is because the office staff was very nice as well as the office was clean and had a pleasant atmosphere. You’ll probably have a great time and experience here if your in “Dr Kesslers weight range”. I was greeted nicely at front desk and went into the office Dr. Kessler was very kind at first and we looked at my baby and everything was well and healthy. He went on to ask me if I have any issues. I told him about how I have Cysts on my ovaries but according to my previous OBGYN they were nothing of concern. Without any testing, bloodwork, family history, etc Dr Kessler told me I have PCOS which started to upset me of course because no one wants to be told they have a disease/syndrome they never knew about. So that at first started to upset me, then he went on to confront me about my weight. It’s definitely something that needs to be spoken about but there is definitely different ways to… work this to people. I’m over 200lbs I see griffin facility physicians and have always had issues loosing since I was put on and taken off BC. but since I got pregnant I’ve been extremely good with my health, I have a active job and have been swimming eating fruits and veggies. Instead of asking me about what I was doing about my health he began to scare me telling me about all the chances of preclampsia, Birth defects etc. I can cause my baby by being overweight. As I wasn’t already actively trying to lead a better lifestyle. THEN proceeded to tell me that he WILL not deliver my baby if I gain anymore weight because I am a liability to him and a anesthesia risk. So of course I wish I could have held it together but being 8 weeks pregnant and emotional I started crying because I’m finding out I have a disease, he won’t deliver my baby, I have other stressors as I’m working 50 hours a week pregnant. He then proceeds to ask me if I ever seen a therapist, I used too when I was very young but in general I’m a happy person don’t let much get to me. My boyfriend came with me to my appointment and was shocked by what was being said and even tried to chip in to tell him how good I’ve been with eating and how happy I usually am. But I digress instead of doing any normal prenatal work ups he just continued to speak on my mental health the entire appointment till there was no time for testing. He told me then he wanted me to fill out 2 pieces of paper work before I left. As I was leaving I was given 2 slips of paper which were mental health screenings asking if I ever want to harm myself or If I’m currently depressed, can’t handle most situations etc. All because I was emotional due to my pregnancy because he stressed me out between telling me he will not deliver my baby if I gain anymore weight, that I am going to cause my baby health risk, that I have PCOS etc as stated above. He made me feel like a mental case because He told me all these bad things. I understand once again things need to be brought up but STRESS is not good for the baby and you saw it bothered me so I don’t know why he felt the need to dig deeper and upset me further. As this isn’t a part of a prenatal appointment. Needless to say that I RAN from this office and will not be returning. I do not recommend Dr.Kessler especially if your over weight, have any health issues, or your experiencing being emotional from pregnancy like 95% of women experience. Because apparently then your considered to be mentally ill or at risk for PPD. I am extremely happy about my pregnancy and my baby and after going in so excited I came out miserable. I will never go to a doctor who makes me feel otherwise.

He always took the time to talk with my husband and I, get to know us and not make us feel rushed. He has also made me feel nothing but fully supported. I have never felt this with my previous doctors. He would go out of his way to ensure I was ok throughout my pregnancy, delivery and postpartum. My delivery went smoothly and was the best delivery I’ve ever had, stress free and no complications. I highly recommend Dr. Kessler to anyone!

The absolute best OB-GYN!!! I had a horrible experience with my previous OB-GYN during my pregnancy and I switched over to Dr. Kessler halfway through my pregnancy and I was not disappointed what so ever. He made sure to review all my medical records from my previous OB-GYN. Dr. Kessler is not only highly educated and knows his stuff but he also makes you feel comfortable, walks you through everything in detail, answers any and all questions you may have, etc. he is absolutely amazing! My delivery could not have gone anymore perfect. I cannot thank him enough. I will always highly recommend him.

I was very impressed with dr. Kessler. Before my exam we had nice conversation He was familiar with my medical records and history,without notes. Then it was just normal conversation. He showed honest interest. The star was also very nice. Very professional group!

Alvin ate Alginate Revelation 12:11 overcomer I have to tell you that Dr. Michael Kessler is the best doctor I've ever met and he's soooo gifted. I have 3 children and all of my pregnancies were high risk due to me having an incompetent cervix. With each one I've had a cerclage placed, however the only full term pregnancy that I've had is the one managed by Dr. Kessler. I met Dr. Kessler when I was pregnant with my middle child who's now 3 years old. He monitored me closely, would counsel me by talking, provided me with a lot of natural remedies and techniques that definitely helped me to have a successful healthy pregnancy. This was the only pregnancy that I went full term, which is something I never thought I would experience. Honestly speaking I wish he would've relocated a little closer to where I live so he could've delivered my last baby. Dr. Kessler is the best and if I decide to have another baby I will have to travel the distance. I highly recommend him. There's… no other like him. He's a miracle doctor!

I was saddened to hear that Dr. kessler switched practices. He was the only reason why I went to Bradhurst. So well-educated and a master in his field. I just knew I was in great hands with him. Anyone would be lucky to have him in their care.
