Dr. Michael L Klein, MD

First of all, don't trust this doctor or his staff. His front desk woman/book keeper promised that my insurance would cover all of my procedure before I had it done. She said she called and that the insurance had said it would cover it. About two weeks after the procedure, I got a bill for hundreds of dollars from the office. The woman called to yell at me saying I needed to pay the bill immediately. She admitted that she had said there would be no coverage before, but that when she contacted the insurance afterwards, they wouldn't pay for the procedure. They ripped me off and lied! But that's not the worst of it, this doctor didn't solve my issue even after he had me undergo an expensive procedure to find out what was going on with my stomach. I still have acid reflux and now am scared to see another doctor in NYC because this place ripped me off so bad. Thanks for nothing, liars!

PositivesDr. Klein seems very knowledgeable and listened well.If you need to have a procedure done, the anesthesiologist (I had female Filipina) was very good and made me feel very comfortable. I had no complications from my endoscopy, and other than feeling groggy from the anesthesia, the only other thing I felt was slight discomfort in the back of my throat which was gone the next day (I had Cepacol drops which worked well). NegativesWaiting/scheduling: I was in the office twice before my procedure. For the first appointment, I had left work on lunch the first time, only to sit for 15-20 minutes without the receptionist giving me a heads up at all. I finally tapped on the glass to ask Can you please tell me how far behind the doctor is running? only for her to reply Hes actually not running behind he is doing a procedure. Another woman, whose appointment was scheduled for 30 minutes before mine was also still waiting. It was very strange to me to be told that the Dr. was not running… behind when my appointment was for 20 minutes ago, and the receptionist had called me that morning to confirm. For my second appointment I was seen within 10 minutes. I waited approximately 20 minutes before my procedure.Payment: They do not take debit/credit card for co-pays/deductibles which is an inconvenience depending on your insurance. Instead of stating that they would charge my insurance and send me the bill (I have a high deductible so this is normal), during my second appointment the receptionist asked if I could pay (I am not one to carry a checkbook around). Fortunately Dr. Klein overheard and asked her to just hold onto the statement with my current balance until after my procedure and take care of it all at once. Disruptive, unprofessional exchanges between Dr. Klein and nurse/receptionist: The only negative thing I have to say about Dr. Klein is that while waiting for my procedure I clearly heard him and the nurse arguing very, very loudly and heatedly. It was disconcerting enough that I almost walked out of the office without proceeding with the endoscopy. After feeling it out, and experiencing the sane presence of the great anesthiologist (and both Dr. Klein and the nurse acting like nothing had happened) I decided to stick it out. After my procedure was over and I was awake, I heard them fighting again at this point I mentioned it to the anesthiologist what could she do other than laugh it off? I have never observed such comportment between colleagues in a medical environment. Nurse: True to other reviews I had read online, the nurse basically shoved a thick pile of docs for me to sign while standing up, clearly expecting me not to ask anything or read anything. Only once I said this actually hasnt been explained to me, and other treatment options havent been presented to me did she begin to explain what the first paper I needed to sign was. I agree with other reviews that this pile of docs should be given to the patient while they are waiting (not thrust at them while they are standing outside of the procedure room). I was also not given a copy of the post-procedure instructions and luckily had only taken Tylenol the week before. Receptionist: I was still resting on the procedure table as the anesthesia wore off and had been awake for about 20 minutes. I have never had an endoscopy before but read that it is normal to rest under observation for an hour afterwards. The receptionist came in, asked how I was feeling, and said, Time to get up Dr. wants to go home now and without putting the stool back by the bed had me get up, at which point I almost fell over but managed to regain my balance. After I dressed and went back to the reception area, she said Okay, Dr. wants to see you in three weeks, like lets make your appointment and then you will leave. I sat down while she worked on something. She then proceeded to call me by the wrong name three times before I looked up, realized she was referring to me and reminded her of my name. I asked to speak to the doctor I honestly think she would have let me walk out the door if I had not insisted. It was just strange. Dr. Klein went over everything with me, wrote me a prescription and that was fine. There are some serious issues from a client services perspective in this office, but if you can get past that the actual medical care was good. But in New York City, there are too many other options for one to have put up with all the non-care related drama.

VERY GOOD DOCTOR AND ENDOSCOPIST

I am seeing this EXCELLENT doctor, my gastroenterologist, for several years. I am very happy with him. He made the right-correct diagnosis of my symptoms - Irritable Bowel Syndrome.He pointed out to me how the stress and my personal life effect on my gastrointestinal problems, including left sided abdominal pain, diarrhea, etc. - they all were brought on by my not being happy with my boyfriend and breaking-up with him. I would definitely recommend DR. Klein to my friends and family. He is worth the waiting time in his office!

Outstanding,caring physician - GASTROENTEROLOGIST and ENDOSCOPIST. Done my colonoscopies TWO times-beautiful job! This guy knows his stuff! I sent to him several of my collegues and relatives, they are ALL were very satisfied! He is worth the waiting time.

Excellent Clinician and Endoscopist. Did my COLONOSCOPY with ease! Fully recommend him to my friends and relatives.
