Summary
I chose to pursue a career in gastroenterology and hepatology (treating conditions of the digestive system and liver) because the need in this area is so great. There are tremendous numbers of folks who are struggling with GI complaints and it's an honor to take part in the relief of suffering in any way. Gastroenterology is also very interventional in nature with plenty of opportunities to "fix things," from gastrointestinal bleeding, to out of control colitis. The future of the gastroenterology field will be filled with opportunities to intervene and make a difference. I treat adults with conditions such as GERD (acid reflux), Dysphagia (problems swallowing), Colorectal cancer screening, and anyone with bowel habit changes including irritable or inflammatory bowel disease.
