Dr. Michael Lavelle Jr., MD

Did not know what a good urologist was until I switched to another MD. The lack of advice and/or guidance from Dr. Lavelle is somewhat stunning compared to the current urologist I am seeing. Current doctor did a much more thorough digital rectal exam, found a nodule Dr. Lavelle never noticed and recommended MRI which found cancer. All Lavelle told me was that I needed to be on Finasteride for the rest of my life and he never recommended MRI or suggested screening for cancer. I am glad I changed Dr’s but not happy about the fact that I could have found cancer much earlier if Dr Lavelle has been more proactive. It pays to look around if you don’t feel comfortable with your doctor.

For all of his experience and background I have not been impressed with his recommendations for my BPH. Chose to see another doctor and it has been a completely different experience. Am extremely happy I made the change.

I had my cancerous prostate removed in Feb and didn't know Dr Lavelle at that time. My surgeon left town and Dr Lavelle took on many of that Surgeon's cases. It has been my pleasure to have him managing my continued care. I had some post op difficulties and he performed a cystoscopy yesterday. I can't say it is a pleasant procedure, but Dr Lavelle certainly seemed to make it as bearable as I can imagine it being. He has been very courteous, great at communicating things in a timely manner, and perfectly personable and knowledgeable. I am quite comfortable with my ongoing urological health in his hands.

In 2015 I had ongoing UTI issues and got to a point I could no longer urinate. I was told by Dr Lavelle that I would need to begins catheterizing myself 4 times daily. When I asked how long that would continue, he told me “ get used to it, you will be self-cathetering for the rest of your life”.....At age 60, without exploring other options that was not an acceptable option for me. Fortunately, my oncologist referred me to Dr David Menashe. Dr Menashe assessed my situation and then performed a minor surgery that allowed me to properly urinate without any need for catheters. I daily thank God there are better doctors available than I experienced with Dr Michael Lavelle. Don’t hesitate to seek a second opinion if you are told to “get used to it”. On a positive note, Lavelle’s staff seemed to be top notch people.

I urge anyone thinking of getting a vasectomy to understand the risks of serious infection. I received 2 staph infections during my procedure at NW Urology. I spent 1 week in the hospital in excruciating pain and with a life-threatening infection and fever that three different antibiotics could not initially control. I went in for another surgery to remove the cantaloupe size infection. It took another 3 months to get my life back. In addition, despite great health coverage, my out-of-pocket was over $12,000. Despite hiring an attorney, the insurer for NW Urology denied any reimbursement after one year of stonewalling. Again, understand the risks, and wisely choose your clinic.

I have seen Dr. Lavelle for at least 3years and find him and his office personnel are quite professional and respectful.

I have an aggressive case of prostate cancer and I saw Dr. Lavelle. After an MRI, I badly wanted to know the results. I phoned him at least half a dozen times. He almost never takes calls at his office. When he phoned back, he left a message without answering my question about the MRI. and he told me to phone him back later! What's the use in phoning him back, if he never answers the phone? It was incredibly frustrating. Then his nurse left a message, asking if I wanted to schedule an appointment! No, I just wanted badly to know the results of the MRI! I wasted a lot of time like this with Lavelle, when my cancer needed immediate attention. It felt like he didn't care.

Dr. Lavelle was AMAZING! I felt comfortable, confident, and cared for through my diagnosis and treatment.

Doctor Lavelle was very informative about my bladder cancer. He has a great bedside manner and was very respectful to my wife. He was never impatient with our two full pages of questions before and after surgery. His check-ups were very thorough and he caught a reoccurrence of cancer that a surgery took care of quickly My wife and I both appreciated that he has an appropriate sense of humor. Examinations can be painful and I appreciated both his, and his nurse's gentle touch. I would highly recommend his services.

Dr Lavelle seemed to care and want to help at first but when my problem became chronic and not something that could be fixed with surgery he quickly lost interest in trying to help. I am plagued with kidney stones and he offered no solutions and did not want to treat the pain. Disappointed.
