Dr. Michael John Light, MD

I implore anyone considering Dr Light for care to read the negative reviews. They 100% accurate. He meets the clinical diagnostic criteria for Narcissistic Personality Disorder. His wife runs the office and is a tyrant. She has a bubbly personality similar to a barnacle. He holds his patients to a certain level of standards but will not hold himself accountable to those standards. He didn't show up for a scheduled appointment...no problem, failed to send scripts in a timely manner resulted in me going several days without medication...no problem. But the moment you have to reschedule or mistakenly provide the wrong HSA card, he will drop you as a patient. Mental health patients are vulnerable and he will use that as leverage over you. If you criticize him, he will lash out at you like a spoiled child. He even had the nerve to bring my daughter into the conversation. Under normal circumstances, he would have found himself eating from a straw for a long time. Instead, I almost feel sorry… for him and realize he can't help being such a poor physician.

I thought Dr Light was a savior!! That was until I was in a crisis and called his office in a panic. Kelly (his wife) said I was disrespectful and next thing I know, I get a letter saying I’m no longer a patient due to disrespecting his wife!!! Seriously????? Kelly has no business being in that practice. What kind of “psychiatrist” kicks a “mentally ill” person out of his practice for being disrespectful????

Dr. Light is very caring, compassionate and understanding. From the very beginning he was constantly checking-in to see how I was doing with the medication. He helped relieve two weeks of extreme panic/anxiety in a few days and now I am back to my typical self.

Dr. Light is an excellent doctor who truly listens to his patients. He is extremely smart and was quickly able to find the right mix of medications to control my various conditions...which is something no other doctor has done effectively despite my decades of treatment. I feel like he gave me my life back.

He prescribed medicines that were unsuccessful and actually caused more complications. He was always late for his appointments.

I find Dr. Light to be a legitimately caring and compassionate physician. He has modified my medication regimen considerably and been honest that there is no magic pill that fixes situational depression. He tweaks things as necessary and I appreciate that. The only negative I’ll mention is his unwillingness to consider new medications which might be beneficial to patients. His wife used to be a pharmaceutical rep and she blocks any drug reps from talking to him. I realize she knows a lot about the sales tactics used to promote new meds, but it’s unreasonable for Dr. Light never to consider new medications which could be better than the old stavdbys. As a physician, I think he should be more open minded and not allow all new meds to be excluded from consideration. Just my .02. Things change and advancements are made in medicines. No need to stay stuck in the past and not even look at the new possibilities.

Beautiful office in a restored Antebellum mansion. Mostly med management with some educational and supportive psychotherapy included. He streamlined my meds; saved me money by writing generics; I feel much better. Kelly and Oed are also very comforting and helpful. Overall a great experience in my 16 months.

Dr. Michael Light figured out what was going on with me in one visit what my Primary and my OBGYN couldn't in multiple visits...He was recommended to me by a dear friend who after listening to me rant at dinner one night about the trials and tribulations of being a middle aged woman (i'm 47) and not sleeping at night and needing a nap at 4pm and walking in circles during the day and my doctors not believing me, or listening to me, or chalking it up to "that's life." All the coffee and diet cokes and self medicating I was doing at Walgreens went away after meeting with Dr. Light. It wasn't my thyroid, it wasn't the "change of life" women go through, it was that I have ADD. I can't say I was surprised considering my entire school conduct grade was always "outgoing but talks way too much in class and doesn't always turn in homework on time." I have to admit it was a bit nerve wracking at first to make an appointment with a Psychiatrist. But it was the best decision I have ever made. … My whole life changed after that first appointment and diagnosis. I actually function and stay on task during the day!! I don't need coffee to get me going anymore and I don't need nyquil to fall asleep. I'm not walking in circles anymore either. I get things accomplished. I am a happier person (and I didn't even realize I was unhappy) because I am not stressed. I can't believe how much time I wasted having bloodwork done, having this done and that done, when all I needed was a doctor who would really listen to me and take me seriously. Dr. Light did that and he is a God Send!! So moms and "ladies of a certain age" if you are reading this, don't give up, go see Dr. Light. From the moment you walk into his "office," you will feel at ease. I put office in quotes because it is the most incredible, beautiful office I have ever seen. A beautiful antebellum home in Shelbyville that is comfortable and welcoming. The office manager Kelly and her furry "assistant" are friendly, helpful, reassuring, and knowledgeable . Which is so great when you are nervous as to what to expect that first visit. Thank you Dr. Light for everything, but most importantly, thank you for listening to me and actually hearing what I had to say!!
