Dr. Michael James Mccann, MD

Dr. McCann has performed several surgeries on me. Each time, he has been cordial, professional and thorough. I have had positive experiences with each one. I would certainly recommend him to anyone needing surgery.

I was referred to Dr. McCann for a bacterial infection - my NP tried to get me in to see a different doctor, but could not and the only doctor available that day was Dr. McCann. I should have realized when she sounded less than happy that he was the only doctor available that something was up. She tried to warn me in a professional way that he had no bedside manner. I figured I didn't care as long as he could help me. She said he would probably give me a local anesthetic and drain the infection. When he came in, he rudely asked why I was there (even though the NP said she would forward her findings to his office). He acted like I was wasting his time. He took no effort to be gentle (did NOT use anesthetic or a numbing agent), and used an unsterile long wooden stick to probe the infected area to "see how deep this thing is." He wore a glove on only one hand, and when he changed the glove, he threw the used one in the metal trash can by lifting the lid with his ungloved hand (instead of… the step-pedal)! At no time - after he entered the room, before "treating" me, during the procedure, or before he walked out the door, did he ever wash his hands!! He asked me if the NP had prescribed an antibiotic for me, and when I told him that she said HE would do that, he berated her for not doing so. There could be no ill will between him and her because he did not even know who the NP was who referred me. In other words he is rude, arrogant, and unprofessional to everyone. I am supposed to go back for a follow up (I guess to see if the antibiotics are working, because he certainly did nothing!), but am going to cancel that appointment and find someone else.

I found Dr. McCann to be extremely rude. My 88 year old Mother-in-law starting having severe headaches and I insisted she get in right away to see her primary physician. They suspected inflammation of the arteries and if left untreated can cause stroke or permanent blindness. Tests were done immediately that same day due to the urgency and my Mother-in-Law was scheduled to see Dr. McCann about a biopsy right away. When I went in with my Mother-in-law and tried to ask a question, Dr. McCann was so rude and immediately snapped at me "I'm talking to her not you." I tried to explain that I thought this was a consultation visit prior to a surgery and wanted to make sure he knew why I was in the room also. Again, he snapped "I prefer she tell me why she's here, not you." At that point I just left the room and went out into the hallway of the building to wait for my Mother-in-law to finish. Later, he accompanies my Mother-in-law out into the building hallway to tell me she wants to wait… with the biopsy and when I suggested to my Mother-in--law I think she should still have it, again he proceeded to snap at me again "she's the boss here, not you." What a pompous person. Why come out into a hallway to confront me again with your arrogance. My Mother-in-law had already started with signs of blurred vision that morning and what Dr. McCann failed to even learn about me is that if I let her "be the boss" when it comes to her health, she could have had a stroke or have irreversible eye damage or blindness by the time she realized how serious this was. Instead of commending a family member for being there, insisting she see a doctor 2 days earlier and taking interest in an elderly family member's well being, I was treated like I was an interfering btch. Even the office staff were cold and borderline rude. I have never been treated this way by any other medical office in my 67 years. I won't recommend him to anyone.

Dr McCann took exceptional care of me. He was very kind and quite possibly saved my life. After a different surgeon and two ER doctors snubbed me because I did not present with textbook acute appendicitis, Dr McCann took care of it immediately. My appendix was very large on ct and was making me sick with nausea, diarrhea, only mild tenderness. The other doctors blew off my symptoms and told me that it had probably been enlarged for a long time. In contrast, Dr McCann said, your appendix should not be that size; there are cases where the appendix is not acute appendicitis but is nonetheless diseased and won't get better on its own. I can remove it for you tomorrow. He also said, if it were him, he would want an appendix that was over twice the size of normal to be taken out. Pathology revealed mucinous cancer cells throughout the appendix. It was distended with cancerous mucinous material inside. The other surgeon left me to have my appendix burst which would have oozed… cancer cells throughout my abdominal cavity. I meet with an oncologist next week to start a treatment plan.

Dr.Mcann has done three of my surgeries I trust him! When he took out my thyroid the scar is practically invisible! I'm so thankful!

This doctor was uncaring and extremely rude to my elderly father. I don't know who he thinks he is, but he needs to know his pompous self is not the only surgeon in the city.

I got hernia surgery about 2 years ago with Dr. McCann and was very unsatisfied. I had an infection shortly following the surgery and was in the ER because his office could not get me an appointment in a reasonable amount of time. About a year and a half after my surgery the hernia came back. I would not trust this doctor to preform a surgery on me again.

for a surgin I feel the way he stiched me is very sloppy work. I am going to have infections because of the way he stiched me. I would not recommend this doctor to anyone.
