Dr. Michael McManus, MD

I am writing this review, because the negative reviews is not what I experienced with Dr. McManus. My child is on the autism spectrum with further complications of ADD or ADHD. I find Dr. McManus very knowledgeable, methodological in his approach and has a decent bed-side manner. In addition, my child had a negative reaction (or non-reaction) to one of the medications we tried and Dr. McManus called us on a Saturday to follow-up. Telehealth is not ideal. I only gave four stars because it is difficult to get an appointment, and we run out of medications before we can get an appointment. Not sure if staffing issues should docked against him, but I am rating him on the overall experience.

Unprofessional and inappropriate at best.

I'm an adult now, but had this quack as a doc as a teen. He was OBSESSED with asking me about masterbation. How does that relate to school truancy and some poor behavior? He is a creep with an undiagnosed personality disorder.

This organization is extremely understaffed, poorly run and the people that work there range from rude to robotic. They don't seem to have any empathy for patients and when you try to get the service you're entitled to, you are attacked and hung up. They don't listen, they make wild assumptions and don't give you the chance to explain. This is extremely ironic considering they are supposed to be a psychiatric center. In his capacity as a director, Dr. Mcmanus needs to address these issues, train his staff and hire the people needed to meet the demands of their patients

His bedside manner SUCKS. He is the WORST doctor in Dothan. Stay AWAY from this idiot. How he EVER became a doctor is beyond me. He mocks patients and refuses to listen to problems. . .even though he is a PSYCHIATRIST. WORST DOCTOR EVER!!

Let's start with getting an appointment. Very hard to get through to the office. Once I was finally off hold - there was a long wait to get an appointment - there was nothing for over a month. Front office staff is friendly enough, and when you get there you can see why calling the office is a mess - the front office seems understaffed and very busy. Friendly staff - but stressed (or it seemed that way in any case). Waited over an hour to be seen. Doctor spent maybe 10 Minutes or so talking to myself and my child. Didn't seem very engaging, and was quick to write a prescription. Didn't take the time to answer my questions about the medications and seemed a bit distracted. As we were waiting by the desk to schedule the follow up - I heard the doctor speaking about another patient to someone else in the office - I'm not sure if it was another doctor or just a staff member. The things said were very upsetting - he was talking about the parents, saying derogatory things. At… this point I didn't feel comfortable going back. I'd hate to think what he might say about myself or my child. We ended up cash paying to see another child psychiatrist (as our insurance requires us to use PCSD) after that. I couldn't in good conscience go back.

I was not very happy with Dr. McManus and I am trying to find another Dr. for my child. Dr. McManus gave my child a few different meds to try and he couldn't tolerate them. I don't find him to be very honest either.

Contrary to the other reviews here, I have been a happy patient of Dr. McManus for years. My son had a manic episode as a high school freshman and starting seeing Dr. McManus in the hospital. He was hospitalized twice during that time. Dr. McManus was reasonable and tried one medication as a time, ensuring he knew the outcome of each before changing. My son ended up on 2 medications, finished high school, is about 2 finish a college degree at UCLA and is down 2 one medication. I appreciated Dr. McManus reasoned approach. My second son has had distraction issues and a special ed student for years. I was reluctant to try medications until it was a last resort. Dr. McManus laid out the pros and cons thoughfully. Finally we started on a ADD medication with great results. I have waited a bit in the office for appointments over the years, but I have found I can get appointments in a reasonable about of time. Overall, I am a happy mom with two great outcomes under Dr. McManus' care.

been going to him for 5 years- FINALLY had enough and am finding a new doctor- never (with 6 children) had any troubles with any doctors EVER- this is the first problem and this office is AWFUL. Usually wait 45-2 hours once we arrive. he spends about 2-3 minutes for the whole appointment; prescribes obscure variations of prescriptions that send us to 4-5 pharmacies and find they are "unavailable or backordered" then have to go back to office for new scripts; and be treated like we are inconceniencing them. (this happened 5 or 6 times- NOT FUN). We were overcharged for missed appointments after we called to reschedule were assured that it was "no problem" by office staff- charged HUNDREDS and they charged us and the insurance company- (and later found they charged us and the insurance company) total nightmare- billing department is as friendly as a rock- AVOID THIS OFFICE AT ALL COSTS OR YOU WILL REGRET IT

After waiting for over an hour in the dirty freezing office, meds were refused to a suicidal teen because the teen used pot medicinally. The consult focus was switched to "substance abuse" rather than depression. This Dr. is a closed minded, judgemental,unhelpful bigot who told a patient he couldnt help. Go 2 a real Dr.!
