Dr. Michael David Osborne, MD

Dr. Osborne is warm and approachable - something of a dry wit, but goodness, that's permissible - and moreover, I found him to have a solid, bedside manner. I'd gone to see him for lower back pain, and I appreciated that he confided in me his own back woes; a very human touch, I thought, a relatability. A nice round of small talk ensued before getting down to business; he noted the duck boots I was wearing, and we chatted about his cycling avocation. He is sympathetic to one's malady. Make no mistake. Yes, Dr. Osborne has a no-nonsense approach, and he is very thorough in his discussions with you, as well as in his notes.The upshot: I came away with a diagnosis, the precision and detail of which, I sought but could not find after having seen a trio of doctors across a two-state area. You won't find someone of Dr. Osborne's caliber just anywhere, certainly not in the rural clinics of my region. He is, after all, what one comes to Mayo Clinic for, a fabulous doctor whose expertise lets… the patient benefit from a level of specificity and targeting that then allows that patient to map out an effective strategy for future treatment either at Mayo or elsewhere. Perhaps that sounds baseline, but getting the right diagnosis is getting harder to find. He has my respect and praise.

Was not at all responsive to the excruciating pain I was having from a herniated disc. When I asked for an MRI to see what was causing such incredible pain he said no, not until he received my last imaging from 2017. Had to suffer another week unnecessarily. This is a Dr that doesn’t care.

I went to see Dr. Osborne for Chronic Pain and I have to start by saying he made me feel like it was completely all in my head. I have lived with my pain for well over 20 years. When I first entered his office he said he didn't understand why I was in there. I had already gone through their Pain Rehab Center and he wasn't going to medicate me. He said I needed Central Sensitization Therapy. I finally got up picked up my belongings and calmly said you can't help me, thank you for your time and left. He left such hateful comments about me on the Portal that are now open for all doctors at Mayo Clinic to see. Doctors at Mayo Clinic will now believe his word against mine. I upset his ego by kindly walking out so he lashed out at me by diagnosing me with a mental issue rather than my pain issue. Please just be aware that he has NO bedside manner and he is very abrupt.

I have to admit I was anxious about this appointment after reading the reviews. My experience was the exact opposite of the other reviews. Dr. Osborne was kind, he did not rush me, he even had a sense of humor. There was no feeling of being rushed, he explained everything and answered all my questions. We came up with a plan for my treatment together and I will definitely return to him for treatment.

When Dr, Osborne first started with Mayo, he wrote me off as a patient looking for drugs. Didn't listen and spent much of his time talking about his new home and being hired at the Mayo Clinic. I was looking for a second opinion because I wasn't sure that the pain mgmt doctor was seeing was offering everything he could. I was already being treated with meds, I didn't need any more and everything was an open book. I left his office in tears!!!

Drove a friend over. The things she said..for her to agree to see him in the first place was a miracle. For someone I've known 30 plus years...I'm going to accept watch she told me was truthful. If you want a bunch of shots from a very rude guy, you have the perfect guy. The other reviewer said basically the same thing. Just an opinion.

First, my primary doctor at Mayo sent me to this doctor to advise on pain relief. I have arthritis in my neck, shoulders, thoracic spine, lumbar spine, knees, hands and feet.) Dr. Osborne offered SI joint injections but said he does not manage patients' pain, that he has too many patients to do that, that they "all have pain." He explained he was following me for the SI joints only and that I needed to see other doctor(s) for the other joints. The picture above shows a smile on his face. He most definitely did not smile in my presence, nor did he show the least bit of empathy.
