Dr. Michael Rock Raphael, DO

Horrible Gastroenterologist. I saw Dr. Michael Raphael for an ulcerative colitis condition. He seemed to lack adequate knowledge to treat my condition. He is lagging behind other Gastroenterologists with adequate knowledge to treat these type of disorders. I ended up seeing another Gastroenterologist that was able to treat my condition.

Talking about GI issues isn't easy for anyone but especially so for young girls. His approach is disarming and thoughtful and much appreciated.

It is really too bad Dr. Raphael was very awesome the first time I saw him, however his incredibly RUDE office staff truly ruined our future patient/physician relationship. The staff is very unorganized and is unable to demonstrate proper communication between Dr. Raphael and his patients. The staff should learn how to politely speak to people especially when relaying a note that is from a physician. The office is so UNORGANIZED and lacks proper use of documentation/accurate communication with one another. Overall, this results in a frustrating and confusing patient experience. One staff member, MERCEDES was particularly rude to me! When speaking with her on the phone I expressed that I was frustrated because I was receiving multiple phone calls from their staff members in response to a note that I did NOT leave and that each staff member was saying something different regarding the same issue/asking me different questions after I thought the issue had been resolved. Instead of… apologizing for the inconsistency and confusion provided by the staff, Mercedes responded to me by saying “Ok well I will write in your chart that you don’t want us to call you anymore.” Clearly she doesn’t understand that you only document what a patient actually says. Not a completely false statement that she poorly interpreted/made up. A staff member should not make up a patient statement and put it in their chart that the doctor will read. I am guessing she wanted to write that because she thought that I would continue to be a patient at this office in the future and did not want to have to call me in the future. Because clearly she hates her job. The staff makes it horrible to be a patient and provides low quality service for a high quality cost.

I never got beyond the rude receptionist. White, young, dyed red hair in a knot on the top of her head. Opens the window just enough to side through a clip board. Did not look up, never made eye contact, uttered one to three word statements. When I asked a questions about the form she said she couldn’t do anything, exaggeratedly shrugged her shoulders and took it back. The concept of a receptionist is to receive the patient. They are the front line of any practice. If a patient only feels they are work to your staff they don’t feel welcome let along secure in your care. Someone needs to tell this young woman she needs to do more than push a pen or keyboard.

Dr. Raphael was awesome! I was sickly for a while and my primary DR. wasn't helping remedy my health issues so I went to see Dr. Michael Raphael at the Novi office. He discovered I had a stomach ulcer, and within a 60 day timeline, he did a followup scope check to make sure my ulcer was healing. His professialism and medical expertise knowledge is fantastic! His personality and compassion made me feel very secure and confident. He KNOWS what he is doing! He is GREAT!!!

This doctor really seems to care about his patients. I would recommend him to my family and friends.

I felt like Dr. Raphael really cared about the things I was going through. He took a great deal of time and asked a lot of questions. I felt very good about the care I received in the hospital and afterward at the office. His office staff were all very professional and helpful with any questions I had and making my next appointment.
