Michael R. Richter, DDS, MS, PA
Dr. Richter was born and raised in Laredo, Texas, where he learned to speak Spanish. He received a Baccalaureate and Master’s degree in biology from Trinity University in San Antonio. Dr. Richter spent several years involved with biomedical research at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio in the Department of Cellular & Structural Biology and the Department of Pathology. While there he became interested in a dental career, Periodontics in particular and entered the University of Texas Dental School at
San Antonio for his dental training. As a dental student, Dr. Richter distinguished himself by winning several awards and grants for his extracurricular periodontal research. Dr. Richter received his post-graduate specialty training in Periodontics, along with his second Master’s degree, from the University of North Carolina School of Dentistry.
Dr. Richter continues to be active in several dental organizations at the local, …state and national level. He is a past-president of the Piedmont Periodontal Study Club, the Alamance-Caswell County Dental Society, The Third District of the North Carolina Dental Society, and served as the president of the Durham-Orange County Dental Society.
Dr. Richter has been in practice for over 16 years. In that time, he has built a reputation as a caring and compassionate Periodontist. His philosophy is that no patient can be expected to stay dedicated to therapy if all they come to expect from periodontal treatment is pain. His goal has always been to provide the most sympathetic and comfortable periodontal treatment possible. Ultimately his hope is that he can help patients to overcome their fear and reluctance to treatment, and to willingly stay committed to therapy. Dr. Richter resides in Chapel Hill with his wife Pringle and there 2 miniature dachshunds Andouille and Boudin named after Cajun sausages.
