Dr. Michael Lawrence Rimm, MD

I had a phone consult with this person. Which I was under the impression there was no cost. We were seeing if we were a fit .He finally chrgd my Ins company 2 different figures 300.00 and 35.00 for a phone consult. He basically ripped off my Ins company. He chrgd them 650.00. For the phone talk. I would never trust this man or his business ever.

I have had 7 years of experience with Dr. Rimm. He has had a very unique and mostly successful approach to therapy. (However, this does not apply to all areas of a person's treatment.) Family Structural Therapy seemed to work well for me and my family. This therapy was done with a pleasant approach, competency, and a genuine willingness to be successful on the doctor's part to enable his patients to lead a happy and fulfilling life, regardless of medical diagnosis. It consists of restructuring the family “boundaries” into age-appropriate, healthy ones. However, as someone looking for a doctor, I would inform you, be well aware that the doctor is a human being. Successes may not apply to all areas of your therapy. In other areas of therapy, know that you may not be listened to, at all. There may be some life- long and heavily impactful decisions that will be made for you based on this nonsense. This may or may not work for you as a patient seeking support for your thoughts and views.… You may be unable to voice feelings, emotions, and different types of logic which may be necessary to the success of your recovery. As a result of this type of ignorance, this part of the therapy has not worked for me. For anyone looking for a therapist, I would recommend, you discuss the entirety of your treatment, in full length and detail with this doctor before you proceed with any long-term therapy/treatment/ medications to see if this is right for you. In my experience, for the last 7 years, I’ve had an estimated 80% positive experience with Dr. Rimm. He has the ability to be very precise and articulate where other doctors have failed. However, becoming overly- confident on this doctor’s part can easily lead to a lack of communication and trust from his patients. I’m giving him an overall 4 stars out of 5. He is capable of superior performance and may be one of the best doctors on Maui.

Dr. Rimm has been my therapist for many years. I had several other therapists before I began treatment with him. But it has been his methods that have improved my life, helping me to understand and heal my trauma. He doesn’t candy-coat things or necessarily “hold my hand.” But he helps me to see myself for who I am (when I couldn’t) and to see and build upon my strengths. He helped me to understand and overcome the family dynamics that propelled me to some seriously dark places. He is very community-driven, teaching that we can’t get better by ourselves. I had to seek out others to support me, and he will bring those people into our sessions to help them help me. Or to show me my self-sabotaging patterns. He likes to let people know about his credentials, so they can build trust in him and his methods. Those methods provide him with a great capacity for understanding how my issues came to be through my family of origin and what I needed to do to overcome those issues. Some… sessions are not easy, but I know he always has my best interests at heart. I know through his stories that he has healed many people like myself who have serious mental health issues that involve family systems and he heals through the context of the family and community. I am very grateful for the sometimes painful work but ultimately positive outcomes that I have sought for decades.

Maui is limited to mental health care. Dr. Mike Rimm is very busy and doesn’t have time to give quality care. After I had an episode I started working with Dr. Rimm. He suggested working with my family. No one understood what he was talking about and he talks a lot. This technique doesn’t work for me. I hope you find what works for you, that is why I am writing this review. I spent a lot of time and money following Dr. Rimm’s suggestions. I want to inform anyone looking for help what they are getting into. After reading other reviews I saw many others have had a similar experience. Good luck, there are amazing people out there that are trust worthy and help recover. Dr. Rimm was not that person for me. He is a fine man and member of the community, however I don’t think he’s great with deep mental health transformation. I had to find that somewhere else. Interview multiple doctors to find someone that works for you! Good luck on your journey to recovery.

A friend of mine who was a patient of his asked me if I would be willing to do a phone appointment with her so he could fill me in on how she is doing and what I could possibly do to be supportive of her journey. We spent an hour on the phone and after hanging up I was no more educated in what I could do to be supportive as I was before the phone call. I have never in my life met someone who talks in more circle than he does. He never once answered my questions in a manner that made a lick of sense and his lack of humility was astounding and comical. I have experience with psychiatrist and psychologists and was very disappointed with the manner in which he communicates. I am thrilled to say my friend is no longer under his care and has found someone new to help her in her journey that she feels comfortable with and understands. Sometimes people who have years of experience in a certain field can become to big for their britches and lose sight of what really matters in their… profession. He seemed very offended when we spoke for a second session that I didn’t understand him or was able to follow his ramblings on about things that never resulted any clarity whatsoever. Her family also spoke with him and the 3 of them felt the same way I did so with that being said...He may work for some people but I would never recommend him to anyone I know.

He is the worst. A bully, a poor listener with boundary issues.. ethically challenged and cannot stop talking about himself.

It's all about him, not the patient. He is awful.. a bully... really cannot believe the harm he did me. Run as far from this quack as you can.

Don’t expect to ever get a call back

I've know him for over four years. He helped me with my divorce and now I wanted to see him and he has no time for me. His receptionist said I can be on a two month waiting list.

Dr. Rimm is talented in his skill and focuses on the entire family healing and understanding how to help each member of the family. Believes and supports parents to have the ability to make the difference in their children's lives. He is compassionate and does not hesitate to collaborate with other professionals to help the family. I would refer other families to Dr. Rimm for his expertise in helping families.
