My name is Steven Harris, and I have had epilepsy for 40 years. Dr. Smith treated me since my residency days at Rush. I had a Subpial Transection the occipital and cortical lobe of the left side of the brain, and Dr. Smith performed the surgery with Dr. Frank Morrell. I was seizure free for one year, and I was controlled for 17 full years!!! I would never see any other seizure specialist. I was able to obtain my MD because of the amazing treatment that Dr Smith helped me. He will always remain my mentor, friend and colleague ........ Thank you Dr. Smith from the bottom of my heart!! Per my experience , Dr. Smith is able to go beyond Epilepsy, and see other Neurological disorders / movement disorders and explain them in such a way it is understandable. He is patient, he listens, and he answers questions. He's also brilliant. He's brilliant. That's it.

I was very fortunate to be referred to Dr. Smith by a neurosurgeon who had performed three neurological operations on me, including repair of a ruptured brain aneurysm. I have been a patient of Dr. Smith`s for 9 years and feel very fortunate to have found him. Thank you Dr. Smith for all your care.

With a history of MS, and as a resident physician, Dr Smith saw me and told me my MRI findings were just artifact. In fact he told me my numb leg was due to being overweight. The neuroradiologist reading the MRI thought my MS was no longer in remission. She was correct. I was blown off and disease modulating therapy not initiated. Basically I was made to feel as though my concerns were frivolous. Fast forward five years, and it was real, and now serious. I’ve been On DMT’s to include Tysabri and Lemtrada.... he was rude and dismissive. I would not recommend him.

Dr, Smith was thorough in the examination, review of chart information His explanations are clear and he spent time making sure to completely answer all my questions.

Dr. Smith has poor bedside manners and is always half asleep during appointments. Do not recommend--a pessimist who gives no suggestions, even if your seizures are not under control. I have been seeing him for a long time and grown more disappointed, i.e. time to find a new epilepsy doctor.

I have had epilepsy since 4th grade and went to Dr. Smith in high school when my seizures became more frequent (1 every 3 months). Since his appointments, I have only had 2 seizures compared to my normal 10-11 gran mal, without the staff and this doctor, I would be without a license and wouldn't be able to live independently. Great Doctor, best bedside manner, and incredibly knowledgeable. If you have epilepsy, schedule an appointment asap, you won't be sorry. TRUST ME, this is someone speaking with experience!

We drive from Washington D.C. to see Dr Smith and have no problem doing it. He is awesome with our daughter and if not for him I'm not sure if she would be as well as she is today. I would definatly refer anyone looking for a Dr that is great with children, very thorough, and a wonderful bedside manner to him. If I could give him and his nurse more than four stars I would .

We saw several doctors in our area before meeting with Dr. Smith in Chicago and Dr. Smith far surpassed all of those. Dr. Smith was perfect with our son and so kind and compassionate towards us.The information he gave us was invaluable and could potentially lead to our son leading a normal life. Run, don't walk, and waste no time getting your loved one in to see this top-notch doctor. We would have been lost without him.
