Dr. Michael William Smith, MD

Very happy I found Dr. Smith. He is knowledgeable about the medications he prescribes, unlike previous providers I’ve had. When he didn’t know the answer to a question I had about one of my medications, he did some research to find the answer. I appreciate him taking the time to find out for sure rather than giving me an answer he was unsure of. His overall demeanor is very laidback, and he’s a wonderful clinician.

20 years ago I had a mental breakdown. I went through several Drs and hospitals. After seeing him for 1 year and a couple of hospitalizations, he recommended I have an ECT. I finally felt something other than pain. I could smile and I wanted to see my children. He truly saved my life when no one else could.

I'm sure we all could have one bad experience or another. However, I must say that Dr. Smith on more than one occasion has brought me from the brink of despair to being able to live a fairly normal life with my diagnosis. He is the best in our area for Psychiatric issues. I would highly recommend him and his staff to anyone; if one visit seems off - I would definitely give him a second chance. He is a life saver - literally.

My daughter just came home from a visit to Dr. Smith. She has suffered from depression for 15 years...has been on numerous medications, seen other psychiatrists and psychologists for many years....Nothing seems to help! Her physician had her on a new medication recently, which also didn't help, made her more anxious than without it, so she decided to see what Dr. Smith might suggest. As an earlier reviewer I just read, said, 'HE WAS HORRIBLE". He blamed her for her problems, her low energy and weight gain...kept insisting, "You need to get a job!".....Yeah, get a job when you can barely get out of bed because of your depression. I cannot believe how a a psychiatrist who supposedly studies mental illness can have so little understanding of depression...and so little empathy for the patient. STAY AWAY FROM THIS MAN!!!!!!

I've been his patient since 1992 or 1994 and he was the best so I selected him and it's been a long time. He's just monitoring my meds so what more could I need. If I want to talk, I could see a psychologist.

After reading some reviews I was a little weary before my appoitnment. Thankfully, my experience was completley positive. Doctor Smith's bedside manner was just fine. He is a mellow guy so maybe some of the reviews were just due to misunderstanding him. I thought he was nice, attentive, gave me ample time, and was encouraging. I felt better than I have in a while after leaving his offce. Renewed hope and quite optimistic.

Maybe it's just managed care but I feel as if the clock is on when you go to see Dr. Smith. Cha-ching, cha-ching, cha-ching, it feels a lot about money. He is a good doctor but needs to work on his beside manner. Seems bored with my problems.

I have been a pt. of Dr. Smith since the mid 90's. These are the facts. Yes you will have about 20 or so min wait on ave. but take into consideration he is with another pt. and that tells me that pt. is getting help and not a take two aspirin and see you in a month. Fact the average Psychiatrist spends 5 minutes with each pt. Ill take the wait and the 15 min appt. This is fact. He is gentle in nature. He can be frustrating to me sometimes BUT my case is "complicated" In the 15 years I have been his pt. I know I could have died from suicide but Dr. Smith knew what kept me going.Fact whether you like his method or not he really CARES.
