Summary

Dr. Stewart is Professor and Chair of the Department of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery at Weill Medical College of Cornell University, and Otolaryngologist-in-Chief at New York-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center. He also serves as Senior Associate Dean of International Affairs and Affiliates for the Medical College. He received a B.E. degree summa cum laude from Vanderbilt University, and his M.D. from Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. He completed residency training in General Surgery and Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at Baylor College of Medicine, and received his M.P.H. degree from the University of Texas School of Public Health. At Baylor College of Medicine after residency training, he served as Associate Professor and Director of Residency Education in the Department, Chief of Service at Ben Taub General Hospital, and Associate Dean of Clinical Affairs for the College, before coming to Weill Cornell.Dr. Stewart's clinical practice is comprehensive otolaryngology, and he has particular interest in nose and sinus disease, and head and neck trauma. He is the author of 2 textbooks, as well as more than 30 book chapters and 150 peer-reviewed publications.Dr. Stewart is the former Editor-in-Chief of The Laryngoscope journal, and has previously served as Associate Editor or on the Editorial Board of many other journals, including the International Forum of Allergy and Rhinology, American Journal of Rhinology and Allergy, Archives of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, and ENT Today.  He is currently completing his second term as the Executive Vice President of the American Rhinologic Society.  He was recently named President-Elect of the American Laryngological, Rhinological and Otological (aka The Triological) Society, which is the senior scientific society in the specialty. He is also a Past-President of the American Board of Otolaryngology - Head & Neck Surgery, and a past chair of the Education Council of the Board.  He is a Past-President of both the Association of Academic Departments of Oto-HNS, and the Society of University Otolaryngologist-Head and Neck Surgeons. From 2011-15 he was an elected member of the Board of Directors of the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, and he also served on the Board of Directors of the American Rhinologic Society.  He was appointed to the EENT Quality Measures Task Force of the National Quality Forum from 2015-18, and he served on the ACGME Otolaryngology Residency Review Committee from 2016-22.  Dr. Stewart's research interests are in outcomes and quality of life research, and he has received research funding from the NIH, AHRQ, the AAOHNS Foundation, other foundations, and industry. Dr. Stewart has received many awards and honors, including the Fulbright and Jaworski Faculty Excellence Award while at Baylor College of Medicine, and he was inducted into the Academy of Distinguished Educators there. In addition, he has received a Presidential Citation from the AAO-HNS, and he is a three-time recipient of the Academy's Distinguished Service Award.  He has received a Presidential or Vice-Presidential Citation from three other national societies, and he received the Binderup Prize from the Triological Society in 2024.  He received the Houston Distinguished Surgeon Award from AORN in 2005. He is listed in Best Doctors in America by Castle Connolly, Marquis Who's Who in America, Who's Who in the World, Who's Who in Science and Engineering, and Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare, and also in Best Doctors in New York by Castle Connolly, and by New York Magazine.  He has been a Visiting Professor at more than 40 institutions, and has given more then 500 invited lectures, nationally and internationally.
