Michael Svestka, MD, FACS, is a board-certified general surgeon and medical director of Virginia Hernia & General Surgery. He previously served as Assistant Professor of Medical Education at the University of Virginia School of Medicine at Inova, and as Medical Director of the Inova Comprehensive Hernia Program.

Dr. Svestka is a native of the Washington, DC, metropolitan area and a graduate of St. Albans School at Washington National Cathedral. He completed his undergraduate studies at the College of William and Mary, followed by a postbaccalaureate at Harvard, before attending Eastern Virginia Medical School in Norfolk. He completed a five-year residency in general surgery at SUNY Stony Brook in New York, where he served as administrative chief resident, garnering five teaching awards during his tenure. Following residency, he spent six months at the Cleveland Clinic Comprehensive Hernia Center learning the latest techniques in abdominal wall reconstruction.

Since 2019, Dr. Svestka has focused his practice on the full spectrum of hernia repair and abdominal wall reconstruction, with extensive experience in open, laparoscopic, and robotic techniques.
