Dr. Michael Edward Topel, MD

On the positive side Dr. Topel is reliable. He seldomly changes or cancels an appointment time you have scheduled. In addition, he is punctual - beginning and ending his sessions on time However, I expereinced him to be a bit arrogant and makes assumptions about the content you share with him, sometimes never allowing you to explain how he has misunderstood you. On the serious side - he violated my confidentiality multiple times. When he makes a mistake this man can not appologize. He also is inconsistent in that he changes the routine, gives contradictory messages, and doesn't remember what you said in the previous sessions. Overall I felt worse than when I was not in therapy, perhaps due to the way he lacks patience, is not very empathic, and over utilzes analytical thinking as opposed to a more balanced approach of empathy and logic or problem solving. If that is what you are looking for then this might be a good psychologist for you to see. On the other hand, run the other way… if you don't like the things I shared regarding how my visits often went with him. I am giving him only one star because of his violation of my privacy, because he can in fact be very engaged and very helpful. But violation of your rights to have privacy or confidentiality were not easy to stomach and created mistrust and doubt then about even the help, advice, and insights he shares.
