Dr. Michael Van Buskirk, MD

This doctor is a nightmare. He is more interested in self-promotion/bragging about himself than actually helping a patient. I am done. I'm finding a new doctor and may leave the Scripps network entirely due to this doctor.

I saw him once. He was overly concerned with self-promotion and spent 70 percent of the visit bragging about his qualifications.

Dr. VB is a great thinker. Sometimes he seems preoccupied with himself but if you hang in, he'll give you his opinion and he'll probably be right. I've gone to him for 20 years and it's always worth seeing him, even if it takes a couple of days. Nobody does it better than Dawn in his front office. Being right is everything for a doctor, I say.

Was referred to him by another friend. Her mother went to him until she died at 97. He took one look at my mom and knew what was wrong with her. She had been misdiagnosed for 30 years. Now my mother is 100% better, thanks to Dr. Van Buskirk. She had been to many doctors over the years, had tests, many drugs. When a doctor can take one look at you and see the problem, I'd say that's pretty wonderful..

Does not listen or request information from patient to try to understand a situation. Prescribes tests out of hand. Sticks to whatever narrow personal experience/opinion he has in an issue. Remains wrapped up in his preconceived notions and does not consider any other possible scenario no matter how educated his patient or how well they've researched the situation. Awful, pretentious know-it-all. Has made inaccurate assumptions based on his 5 minutes spent with me on several occasions and will not budge even when corrected or otherwise informed. 3 strikes, he's OUT. Getting another physician.

After 31 years in practice, this guy does not have clue how to listen to what the patient says....he thinks he is God, the all knowing.

My application for new insurance was declined. The letter indicated I was taking medications, which I have never taken, and indicated a heart condition I was never told I have. Upon speaking to his office, they admitted they did not know how those 2 medications got into my chart (which were never prescribed to me nor taken by me). In addition, they could not explain why I was not told about a heart issue, and Dr. Vanbuskirk never phoned me to discuss it. I am switching doctors as a result.
