Dr. Michael A Via, MD

Dr. Via is fantastic. He is a wonderful Dr., very knowledgeable, patient, caring. The administrative operation in this office is poorly organized, antiquated phone system, people do not do their jobs properly. Dr. Via gets 5 stars. The office administration needs some serious overhauling.

Dr. Via is pleasant, but his exam is not thorough. All he did was talk and ask a few questions. He didn't even look at my feet, which is really necessary with diabetic patients. In fact, he did no physical exam at all.

Very caring, has lots of patience, and most importantly, he listens to his patients.

Dr. Via is very professional, courteous and caring. I wish this were the 1950s and he did house calls so I would not need to visit his office. His office staff is the absolute worst. They are more concerned with their personal conversations than the patients for whom they are there to provide service. Hold times on the telephone to make an appointment are a joke. Twice today after waiting on hold, someone picked up the phone and then slammed it down. I called back a third time and I am now waiting 11 minutes. Also, the staff really need to review HIPAA. I need a detailed receipt for my medical FSA plan. They can not provide one to me immediately after my appointment, so I fill out an envelope so they can mail me one when it is complete. On two occasions, they mailed me a receipt for a different patient. Our names were not close at all. My name and address were clearly written on the envelope stuffed by the staff member. Finally, they attempted to bill my lab work to an person whose… name was not even close to mine. I regret not reporting this unprofessional service at the time it happened.

If anyone should be a doctor, it's Dr. Via. He gets everything right: *Time management and focus: Unlike appointments with other doctors who spend much more time going through irrelevant background details but then run out of time for what you came to see them about, Dr. Via's appointments are focused on the relevant issue(s). (He asks for more information as needed.) When my appointment is done, I feel like all of my concerns have been addressed. Impressively, the appointments never seem rushed. *Knowledge & communication skills: Dr. Via explains things very clearly, but he does not make things out to be more certain than they are, which I like. As an example of explaining things clearly, when he once called to recommend something that might be helpful, he repeated the name of it twice and spelled it out to make sure I got it. He manages to be clear without it ever feeling like he's talking down or up. Also, Dr. Via will make it clear if he thinks I'm doing something wrong, but he… conveys it in such a gentle and polite way that I do not feel like an idiot for not having changed it before. Previously, I had thought it should be simple enough to google any questions that came up, but it turned out that some things are not on google (at least the first few pages)! Dr. Via knows a lot and is very aware of recent developments that might be more relevant. *Helpful & practical: Finally, I think Dr. Via understands the challenges patients face, and his recommendations have all been very practical. (Other doctors I have seen would have suggestions that I don't think anybody would ever be able to follow in practice.) I should add that Dr. Via listens very carefully, and while he does offer suggestions and explains pros/cons, he leaves the final decision up to me. Overall, my appointments with Dr. Via are invariably helpful, and by the time I leave, I feel very optimistic about managing my condition. Also, Dr. Via's office really has their stuff together! At a lot of the other offices I've been to, simple things like scheduling an appointment, billing correctly, and getting test results or paperwork cannot be taken for granted, making me question whether it's really worth the trouble. However, everything always goes very smoothly with Dr. Via's office. They're super-organized and efficient, and I have never needed to call back regarding misplaced papers, etc. This is in stark contrast to several other places I have been to, where I felt I was more likely to win the lottery than get the doctor to fill out any papers outside of an appointment.... My review would not be complete without mentioning Abby-Gail. I'm not sure what her official title is, but she gets my info, checks my bp, and does blood tests. She is very pleasant and organized. This adds to the positive experience when I come in. It is also extremely helpful with administrative issues, which sometimes are just as important as the appointments.

He is wonderful and has solved my issues.

I went to Dr. Via through a recommendation of a friend. There was concern over nodules on my thyroid. The wait was long but worth it. He looked at the scans I brought, examined me, discussed everything, did a needle biopsy right then. He called with the results which were good. Dr. Via has great communication skills & bedside manner. He put me at ease during a tense time. I recommend him totally.

I saw this doc for about an 8 month period after a total thyroidectomy. Not once did he get up off his chair in his office to touch me or examine me at all! Isn't that strange not to pick up a stethoscope or feel my neck. Well, turns out--I told another doctor this--and he agreed. I hate Dr. Via--don't get me wrong--he's a nice guy--but he is preoccupied and sits there and asks you your symptoms and you are supposed to diagnosis yourself---and he doesn't examine you and he missed my 6 month sonogram. The worst!

I have called his office 3 times since last month - He still has not returned my call!! I feel ignored & wish I had gone with another doctor!!
