Dr. Michael David Winters, MD

I went in for a routine colonoscopy at age 50 because my primary care physician recommended that it be done. He had Dr. Winters office call me. On the day the procedure took place, I arrived at the hospital perfectly healthy. However, upon awakening, I had a raging sore throat, hoarse voice, and painful cough; basically it felt like severe bronchitis. I told several staff that my throat hurt, and asked if I had been intubated during the procedure. They said no, and just seemed ready to release me. I called back 4 hours later to speak to Dr. Winters, but they had another g.i. doc return my call. He suggested that I may have aspirated during the procedure, but was unable to verify with Dr. Winters. I stated that I wish someone had told me, if that was the case. No one seemed to be very concerned. I had to get an antibiotic prescribed by my PCP.

I went in for a routine colonoscopy and a few weeks later was hospitalized for an E. Coli infection of my prostate, caused, according to my NEW Doctor, by the colonoscopy. No post procedure follow up, no notice that this was a risk of the procedure, no warning of the symptoms of an E. Coli prostate infection. Just a lecture on why I should have had a colonoscopy earlier. I filed a complaint with my insurance company and they are investigating.

My PCP set up the appt. w/this Dr. He told me that intestines feel no pain. Said he could cut my intestines out & I would not feel ANY pain. I got up to run out & he stopped me. I felt he didn't want anyone see me fleeing his exam rooms. He needs his license permanently revoked. All I could think was.."what drugs is this guy on!!??!!" There is no excuse for this behavior regardless who you are. He is very sick in mind, emotion & spirit. Someone who says this has no ethics nor compassion & no business being in medicine. Stay away find someone else.

Wonderful doctor. Great bedside manner. He questions you and he listens.He goes through the whole procedure that even a layman like me can understand. Checked on me the next day. Will surely use again if needed.

On first meeting Dr. Winters I thought he seemed unfriendly and indifferent but by the end of the appointment my opinion did a 180 degree turn. The appointment was for my elderly mother and I think the problem may have been that Dr. Winters didn't realize she had some difficulty understanding and or hearing him. Once he understood he showed more of a personal interest in her and made her feel comfortable. Overall our visit was more than satisfactory.

I believe the doctor cheated me. If I had known all I was going to get for $235 was a diagnosis, at least I would have had a choice.
