Dr. Michael Hsi-Ming Yen, MD

Dr. Michael Yen was the only oncologist in the area who actually returned my call and got me in for an appointment immediately when I was facing scary news after a mammogram. I felt so confused and overwhelmed until Dr. Yen was on my case; once I met him, I felt like I could finally breathe and think, and that there was someone I could count on. And it’s been that way ever since – even though it’s a busy office, I’ve never had to wait too long, nor have I ever been left hanging in any respect. Dr. Yen has a knack for breaking down diagnosis, treatment options, and – this is so important to me – the rationale/logic for next steps and how to think about options. In a way, the greatest gift he’s given me are the tools to develop my own, informed philosophy about how to live, and live well, with my condition. I can honestly say after 5+ years of seeing Dr. Yen, I don’t Google stuff anymore because I don’t need to—I have a doctor I can go to any time (seriously almost any time of day) with… anything and get the info I need, that I know I can trust. Having Dr. Yen taking care of me has made things so much better and easier!

Dr. Yen is rude, cold hearted, and, not trustworthy. I don’t know how this man is licensed. My brother is a doctor and he said what he said was absurd. If you ever see this man, which I strongly urge you not too. I strongly reccomend getting a second opinion.

I have had wonderful care from Dr. Yen. He explained my medical condition thoroughly after my first examination and blood work. He made drawings on his chalkboard to help me understand, He answered all my questions. Subsequently, he has followed through with regular check ups. When the first medication we tried didn't work, he found a new one which works very well. He was patient with my desire to supplement his care with acupuncture and vitamins, and when I wanted to take a lower dose of my meds, he agreed, and he monitored my progress (lack of it, actually). I can't recommend him highly enough!

Best, most caring doctor I have ever known. He cared for my daughter for 29 months. She had his email, his cell phone - he never failed to get back to her at any time of the day or night to answer her questions/concerns. How many doctors do any of you know that will take the time to complete explain a procedure and then sit and rub your feet as you cry.

I really appreciate the care I get from Dr. Yen. He is very knowledgeable. He has a good sense of humor and although he is very busy, he takes the time to talk to me and answer all the questions I have.

As a cancer patient, I strongly urge those of you who choose this doctor to do your own research. I would recommend that you choose a different practice altogether, if possible, or at least a second opinion. This doctor did not bother to read the postop pathology report and therefore, was making recommendations based on inaccurate information. In addition, his drug knowledge was not up to par. He has poor bedside manner and very poor follow up. At best, he is mediocre.

Dr. Yen received a call from my primary care physician and took the time to walk over to the hospital where I was having some tests done to discuss my situation. I visited his office with a friend who took notes; he was thorough in his presentation of my condition and took the time to answer all my questions thoroughly. He is caring and personable and bright...in follow up visits he continued to be informative and concerned. After the first visit I complained about his office staff, and it turned out it was the receptionist's last day...every visit after that was dealt with efficiently by the office.

Dr. said to eat all the candy and drink all the coffee you want because it doesn't matter. Hmmmm, I wonder if that is what he tells his kids to eat.Doesn't this guy know about the immune system? How nutrition plays such a huge part in our lives, from the food we eat to the chemicals we use? How about just tell people you don't know anything about nutrition and instead of "it doesn't matter." He wanted to start his drug on my father when he was anemic too. I feel like he is in a hurry to make his money off my dad's cancer theropy instead of worrying about my dad. Not impressed. When we questioned him about nutrition the visit was clearly over and he was done with us. Don't call him with questions because you may not get an answer for some time. Just not impressed.

My impression is that he is very sharp. He has taken whatever time is necessary on my visits and has been thoughtful in plotting my treatment.
