Dr. Michel Toni Torbey

One of the best doctors. He is an ICU doctors and doesn't see patients in the clinic. Seems like the reviewers confusing him with someone else as he doesn't see patients in clinic. He saved my life.

Sadly, I have a number of maladies requiring a high level of healthcare across medical disciplines. A few friends have used Dr. Torbey and all warned me about his volatile, temperament , his tendency to berate patients that question anything he says, and his gruff manner with other staff at UNM. I’m a “people person” and figured I would win him over during my follow-up exam after emergency surgery. I was shocked when he began implying that the need for surgery was my fault and that my failure to take care of myself is obvious. FYI, I am 6’2”, 225lbs, work out 4 times a week, and get medical check-ups yearly. I listened to him treat people badly including being nasty to people on the phone . My exam was thorough, but, at one point when I asked a question, he reminded me that he is “an expert” and I’d just have to trust him. I’m an adult and behave like an adult, which is more than I can say about him. I truly feel bad for his staff and can only imagine the dread UNM med students… experience going to his class. I let the MA and receptionist know I would not be coming back and that I would call to have my records transferred to a new doctor. The staff apologized and seemed to understand. I want to note that UNM saved my life and every other doctor and staff member treated me not only with respect and care, but also as a valued customer for the care they offer. This unpleasant man would be an incredible veterinarian with animals that ask no questions. But instead he practices medicine with a huge angry chip on his shoulder. Good luck!

This physician saved my life. He is an ICU doctor and was very caring to my family when I was so sick. I read the reviews below and think that’s someone with a bone to pick because he’s also a chairman and has to make tough decisions- I would imagine. But, I owe my life to him. This is who you want by you if you sick enough to be in ICU.

I agree with the previous reviewer that this man's ego is much bigger than his knowledge in medicine. He needs to go back from where he came from because here in the US, we don't treat people like the way he treats them. Terrible human being. He's not a doctor.

This man was insensitive, and uncaring. He does not allow for any time for patient questions or concerns. He has no interest in the patients thoughts on their care or extended history that is of similar concern. This man is in desperate need of an ego check and had reduced himself to a pill pusher and appointment fee collector. I will never allow his input in my case again.
