Dr. Milan Manu Patel, MD

If I had written this review a year ago, I would have given Dr. Patel 5 stars. However, after several years of good listening, and what seemed like genuine interest in my well being, Dr. Patel revealed his true nature. 2020 has been a rough year for all of us. At the end of 2019 my mother was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. She has undergone major surgery and is 3/4 of her way through extremely rough chemotherapy. At her lowest point, when she was practically ready to give up, she was in desperate need of some psychological help and while she's been in good hands at Sloan Kettering, they haven't provided much in terms of mental health care. I reached out to Dr. Patel to see if he could talk to my mom, and perhaps prescribe something for her to help get her through this horribly difficult time. Not only did Patel refuse to see my mom or even talk to her in her time of need, he referred us to a "service" which also refused to see her because she was over 69 years old. There is much… that is wrong with health care in this country, but once you've established a personal relationship with a doctor over many years, you expect a little more. I misjudged Dr. Patel - I thought he was one that would go above and beyond, instead of throwing up a cold, clinical response to my mother's cry for help. For this he will never be forgiven and will never get my endorsement or any referrals ever again from me.

Most importantly, Dr. Patel is a great listener and easy to talk to. He took a detailed history, and really seemed interested in getting to know me. I was pleased that he didn't immediately push medication, but was willing to talk to me at length about the positives and negatives of a variety of treatments.
