I do not recommend him.

Helped with my pain from genetic kidney and liver disease.

Very limited in scope. Not interventionist so cannot perform procedures ie RFA. Will not prescribe metered dose patches only oral medications. Widely published but unable to actually help much. Does botox and acupuncture. Not accepting of second opinions or diagnosis beyond his scope of ability. Well respected by peers but rather timid provider who will allow residents to disrespect patients.

Dr. Belgrade has helped me a lot with my RSD , he has made it so I can at least function and actually enjoy my life at times. I think he listens and doesn't rush through an appointment ever. I've Always had great attention by both dr Belgrade and his nurse Mary .

I was referred to Dr. Belgrade in the mid-1990s due to severe chronic pain from rheumatoid arthritis and fibromyalgia. Officially diagnosed w/RA in 1968, (although it truly began manifesting back in 1957), I have lived w/it for most of my life and quite successfully up until the mid-90's thanks to gold shots & immunosuppressive drugs. A splenectomy (removal of my spleen) in the 80's changed all that. A side effect of a splenectomy is the likelihood of developing an IgA deficiency (IgA is critical in helping one fight infection). when I developed the IgA deficiency, I could not continue any of the immunosupressive medications or I would risk potentially fatal effects from them (i.e., fatal infections, increased higher risk of cancer, etc.). Because I could no longer take ANY kind of medicine to control the disease, I was left with minimal alternatives. Add to that, I had/have allergies to Tylenol and am unable to take NSAIDS due to duodenal ulcers (all which are documented). I… had tried multiple natural means but had little results. When I first saw Dr. Belgrade I seemed to feel hope. As usual, agreeing to the pain contract as required, we began an opioid regimen. Unfortunately, long-acting patches (i.e., fentanyl) literally put me to sleep at work while on the computer; the long-acting oral opioids were very helpful but there was a great deal of break-through pain as well which was not addressed appropriately. At his request, I went through a pain clinic which in my opinion was a waste of time. Nonetheless, while some of the techniques may help to some degree in coping w/chronic and severe pain, one is not always able to apply those techniques 24/7. Dr. B had great intellectual knowledge but he rarely if ever changed his mind even when he was clearly in error, and was quick to refer to a psychiatrist. Furthermore, I have learned that physicians who treat people w/CP, tend to be on the offensive, always approaching the patient suspiciously if the treatment they have prescribed doesnt always work. Add to that, multiple tries of different treatments. This is certainly understandable & no doubt is a very real problem as so many are out just to get drugs. However, for those who have multiple things that create CP, often times it takes multiple, various tries with different doses, combinations, etc. More often than not, patients are not given a fair shake and written off as drug seekers. Such is my situation. Ive been told by multiple physicians that all one needs to do is take a look at my joints to see how deformed they are and they know Im not joking. One more thing about the office where Dr. Belgrade practiced at the time: the employees & associates seemed to be disrespectful of patients and I recall overhearing things that were very inappropriate. I did eventually find a wonderful chronic pain physician through the yellow pages, no less. Ive seen him now for 11 years. Don't give up if you are having trouble finding a doctor. Keep at it until you find the right one who is good and respectful.

In 1994, I was referred to Dr. Miles Belgrade by an out of state Doctor whom advocated for me via phone call regarding my chronic pain issues I had with an incurable and painful lifetime disease that no doctors could fix, but was afraid to treat the "Chronic Pain" associated with it. On the day of my Consultation, I had been living in constant unrelenting pain in my bladder since 1990, and by now I was fighting for my life. For one thing, I had a 4 year old boy that depended on me. I'm all he had and without much support system. I didn't want to do what some other sufferer's of this disease did by ending their lives because the constant pain drove them to insanity. I wanted to live and see my boy grow up. But, I needed to stop the pain too. Dr. Belgrade and his assistant at the consultation decided the best they could do for me was physical therapy. I was really surprised by that.They knew my disease was very painful and that it would not go away...so why not treat me with Opioid… therapy?I told them that I felt like someone who is dying of Cancer, only I'm not dying, and the pain will never go away..leaving me without hope of any quality of life. If there is medication out there that can help people with the chronic pain from my disease then why not use it?He said he never used Opioid therapy on a patient with my disease before.I asked him, "Why not"? He paused, and then looked at me, and for some reason he changed his mind and told his assistant to start me on a small dosage of M.S. Contin. They slowly increased the dosage, and within 2 months, I was feeling like a new person. I went back to work...my son back to daycare and he didn't have to see me crying all the time anymore. My tears dried up and he stopped drawing pictures of me with an upside down mouth...he'd said "That's because you're always sad Mom". It tore me up to hear my little boy say that about his mom.This is why I was fighting for my life. On that day, a miracle occurred.Dr. Belgrade changed his mind and was willing to help me live again. He also had me see Psychologists, Physical Therapy etc. I signed an Opioid contract and I can gladly say that after 14 years now, that miracle is still doing wonders...he is still my Pain doctor, and my son is now a Pre-Med student at the University. None of this would've been possible if it weren't for Dr. Miles Belgrade taking his first step in 1994 toward helping those of us with this very painful debilitating disease. While I followed their rules, he began to treat others like me. It was a welcome relief for those who, like me, couldn't get pain relief by their doctors. I have to say that the staff at the pain clinic he serves has been absolutely a joy to see and they are very helpful and pleasant to me. I don't think Dr. Belgrade realizes just how much he changes a person's life, as he did for me and my son. My son has grown up viewing Dr. Belgrade as the person who had the knowledge and power to help his mom so I can keep being his mom filled with happy memories, not just sad ones. I think this is another reason why my son is studying to be a doctor. To sum it up, Dr. Belgrade's decision that day was life altering. Our path may have had a much different outcome then it is today. Thank You Dr. Miles Belgrade for all you have done for me and my son all these years and giving me my life back and allowing me to participate in my son's growth over the last 14 years.

Dr. Belgrade is knowledgeable, but similar to many others in the field of pain management, he can be insensitive and his methods of treatment, medicine are not well explained to the patient. Sometimes he makes abrupt changes in medicine, which seem to be more reactionary that thought out. It is unfortunate that Pain Management specialist cannot walk a mile in your shoes so to speak. Perhaps they would be more sympathetic. He is very "by the book" so don't be surprised if you are sent to a psychiatrist. If you are looking for a knowledgeable doctor, Dr. Belgrade is very good. If you are looking for good bedside manner, I would probably look elsewhere

had a signicate kidney stone / bleeding pain issue. He said there will be suffering and suggested taking us off any pain meds. No help to us. We went to MAPS pain clinic and had GREAT success.
