Dr. Minnie M. Sarwal is a nephrologist who cares for patients undergoing kidney and pancreas transplantation. Providing care throughout the process, she has a special interest in using precision medicine to personalize transplantation for each patient. She is also interested in treating inherited metabolic disorders, such as cystinosis (tissue damage from buildup of an amino acid called cystine), oxalosis (problems caused by buildup in the blood of a compound called oxalate) and methylmalonic acidemia (problems caused by an inability to process certain proteins and fats).Sarwal earned her medical degree at the Medical College and Hospital, Kolkata, in India. She completed a residency in neonatology, pediatrics and surgery at Leicester Medical School in England, followed by fellowships in nephrology and surgery at Guy's Hospital in London, pediatrics at Leicester Royal Infirmary, pediatric cardiology at Groby Road Hospital in Leicester and immunology at Addenbrooke's Hospital in …Cambridge. She earned her doctorate in molecular genetics at the University of Cambridge under her mentor Nobel Laureate Sydney Brenner.Using high-throughput gene assays and artificial intelligence, Sarwal's research focuses on developing new tests to facilitate early diagnosis and treatment of organ rejection and infection in transplant recipients. Her lab has done pivotal work to produce commercially available tests for organ transplant rejection, including the blood tests kSORT and Prospera and the urine test QSant.Sarwal is a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians.

Dr.Sarwal took care of our daughter at Stanford and when she moved her practice to San Francisco we, and many other patients, followed her, as we really like and respect her. We did not want to stay with he other doctors at Packard, and would only trust Dr. Sarwal.

Dr. Sarwal is one of the most compassionate and smartest doctors. When you take your child to see her you know you are getting care from one of the finest minds in the field and that puts me at tremendous ease. Dr. Sarwal knows her stuff, she is up to date with all the clinical articles and research and is always trying to find better ways to treat her patients. She is a strong advocate for my child and her illness. We always feel safe with her.

Dr. Sarwal saved my sons life when he had kidney failure from bloody diarrheoa. She is the best doctor in the team at Stanford and the only one I would highly reccomend to any other parent wanting the best treatment for their child.
