She earned her doctorate in molecular genetics at the University of Cambridge under her mentor Nobel Laureate Sydney Brenner.Using high-throughput gene assays and artificial intelligence, Sarwal's research focuses on developing new tests to facilitate early diagnosis and treatment of organ rejection and infection in transplant recipients. Her lab has done pivotal work to produce commercially available tests for organ transplant rejection, including the blood tests kSORT and Prospera and the urine test QSant.Sarwal is a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians.
