Dr. Avila completed her MS fellowship at Baylor College of Medicine and her neurology residency at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC), where she went on to found and direct the Comprehensive MS Care Center, one of the region's only dedicated MS programs.

A former Associate Professor of Neurology and Interim Chair at TTUHSC, Dr. Avila has built her career at the intersection of clinical care, research, and medical education. She has served as principal and co-investigator on clinical trials for some of today's most widely used MS therapies, with research presented at leading international conferences including AAN, ECTRIMS, ACTRIMS, and CMSC.

Originally from Mérida, Mexico, Dr. Avila relocated from Texas to South Florida to be closer to her daughters. Outside of her dedication to patient care and research, she enjoys writing and composing original music and spending time with her four dogs
