Dr. Misty Dawn Ary, MD

We had an extremely short appointment, rapid fire questions, and she had in her mind what she was going to write for me within the first 5 minutes. She is extremely condescending and degrading when speaking, and made me question whether I actually have ADHD, when I’ve had a diagnosis since I was a child, and have been on medication for it since. I was so upset by the time our appointment was over, so I asked one of my friends if they’d heard of her, and they stated during their treatment with her she had an abuse of power, and did not feel safe with her. I can believe it after the way I was treated, and reading the other reviews. You are truly doing yourself a disservice by going to her, she is a JOKE of a doctor, and has to only be doing this for the $$$ rather than actually wanting to help people.

She is rude & condescending. She barely even let me talk & interrupted me when I tried to answer the questions she asked.

She didn’t read or listen to my history, just wanted to throw a pill at the problem within less than 3 minutes of consultation. She was very rude, commanding and showed zero empathy or concern.

PLEASE READ IN IT'S ENTIRETY. FIND SOMEONE ELSE! I saw Dr. Ary for several months via Telemed, and I don't have any good things to say about her. Most of the time she was late to her appointments. To make matters worse, I always felt rushed when she finally did show up. If I was lucky our appointments would last about ten minutes. She was also very unhelpful at times and consistently displayed a sense of apathy. For example, I asked her one time what side effects I could expect with a new medication she was recommending, and her response was, "All of them." Then silence. However, my biggest complaint with her, and the reason I would give her zero stars if I could, is she refused to cooperate with me when I needed her to sign something for my job. I started a new job driving a hauler, and I needed a signed letter from her saying why I was taking the medication and that I was safe to drive a commercial motor vehicle. I was taking something for OCD, so this should not have been a big… deal. I called her office to get the letter, and her office called back saying, and I quote, "Dr. Ary does not do safety sensitive letters, so she will not be able to get you what you need for your job. If you have any questions please call us back." So I called back and told them it was a requirement by federal law and that she didn't have a choice. I needed it for my job. I was told again that she doesn't do them, so I told her office to cancel the rest of my appointments. Suddenly the receptionist seemed more willing to help, and said she could leave another message with Dr. Ary for clarification. I waited about a week and when her office finally called me back I was told again, "Yeah, Dr. Ary just isn't going to sign it." I asked repeatedly for a reason, any reason or justification for her position, because my job depended on it, and each time I was only told, "She just doesn't do them." I asked five times in this one phone call for an explanation, and that was the answer I was given each time. I told her that it makes no sense why Dr. Ary, who is supposed to be helping me, is going to just let me lose my job because she doesn't want to sign something. And she can't even be bothered to come up with an excuse, much less give me a legitimate reason. And in case you're wondering, I have the voice mails to prove it. Needless to say, I lost my job. I beg every single person that is thinking of working with her to look elsewhere. Find someone that actually cares about their patients, because Dr. Ary isn't it.

The first visit with the DR was frustrating because even though she told me she talks fast and I understand that, she still did not take the time to listen to my symptoms and past history. Even though I was frustrated I still thought the next visit would be better. The next month on the day of the second appointment, I was feeling more happy, energetic, and hopeful, then came the telehealth visit. She asked me how I was feeling and I told her I am still on withdrawals from a harsh medication that my previous doctor took me off of cold turkey. The only response she gave, and gave in a rude manner, was "I don't think that is the medicine and I can't help you with that" I wasn't asking her for help with the withdrawals I was just answering her question on why I was having rough days with the illness. She still talked rudely and insensitive to the point me and my mother looked at each other. I was going to let it go but I have been letting Doctors say what they want to say to me and me… ending the appointment feeling worst than I did before. Before we ended the appointment I told her she needs to listen to her patients more and I told her she was being rude. She responded saying I am sorry you feel that way but I am just telling the truth. If you were telling the truth Dr Ary how could you tell it was not the medicine when you never had patients on the same medication before? After the visit I felt hopeless but only for a little while because The Lord encouraged me! But for a few hours I was really hurt. I felt not understood and not cared about from her and nobody should feel that way from someone who says they are there to help. This is a problem with psychiatrists. If you don't have care, concern, kindness, or empathy for a person and a person with an illness then don't be a doctor.

This woman makes money off the suffering of others. She does not care for her patients and actually has made me much worse. Please please if you care about yourself or your family members please find someone else. She is cold. sent me home and didn’t call in the medication she prescribed and was supposed to send in. So much more. RUN AWAY from this person. I am having PTSD so bad after my stay that I can’t even function right now. I was not like this before my stay under her care. Avoid her and St. Vincent’s ascension at all costs. Find somewhere else. It is not safe there.

Dr. Ary was my doctor when I went into the hospital. I was suicidal, had been drinking a lot and had been abusing xanax. It was hard to get off the xanax but I'm so grateful. I didn't realize how much that and alcohol contributed to my depression. She wants whats best for her patients. The doctor I saw before her increased my xanax every time I saw him and asked. Dr. Ary started me on an antidepressant and between that and seeing a therapist, I am a happy 25 year old with hope for the future.

After I was separated from my father in Memory Care (due to CV-19) and subsequently also lost my job of 21 years, I lapsed into a deep period of depression. If I wasn't sleeping I was drinking. My husband took me to the hospital. I didn't see her until the 4th day when she told me I could go home that morning. I knew to lie to her to avoid any suggestion of a psych ward which at least at more than one hospital in Birmingham are dehumanizing and awful (professional opinion). Just like another reviewer said, "Rapid fire questions," but mine were at 5:15. I had been asleep about two hours. She was rude and argumentative but I have learned to shut up and go along with whatever the "experts" say. I just wanted out. I had my life back together and a month later I am getting better everyday. I have my second telehealth visit with a psychologist tomorrow. If you see her inpatient, you better play the game and get out and to someone who cares. There are plenty out there.

Before going to see Dr. Ary, I read all of the reviews about her. I wanted to be optimistic when I went in to see her, but I found that I resonated with the negative reviews. It was a short appointment, but more so than that, I felt that she was frustrated and annoyed with the feelings that I was explaining to her. She came across that depression is a normal thing that everyone has and I should just accept that. I was disappointed being that it was my first visit to a psychiatrist. I'm sure she is helpful to some, but it was not the right fit for me. I agree that her bedside manner comes across as harsh and unhelpful.

Had I known that she, as my psych consultant, would wake me up at 6 am, simply ask me if I was suicidal or having hallucinations, then say "Sorry I bothered you," I would have detoxed myself at home. She gave me Vistaril which technically an antihistamine. When I told her it didn't work and that I had slept three hours before she woke me she just upped the dose. It also raised my blood pressure and I felt disoriented. Her "visits" took less than a minute and a half. I was shocked when I saw that she billed $95 to BCBS. Each day. Thank God for the staff at the hospital, the nurses, who gave me the IV bags I needed. I told Dr. Ary that I was on alprazolam and she said it was horrible so I was cold turkey on any benzo's too. I am well now. I credit God. This Dr. is rude, uncaring and does not listen.
