Dr. Mitchell Joseph Cohen, MD

The reception area was filthy and smelled like dog. There was a dog sitting on the receptionist desk, and the doctor would yell at it from his office when it barked. The receptionist was rude and would turn music up very loud to block out the conversations in the doctor's office. All this before the actual appointment. The first thing Dr. Mitchell said when I entered his office was "Lie down so I can access your subconscious." He then asked me how I was doing, and when I said I felt depressed, he said to come back in a month and he would increase my antidepressants. I will not be going back. The person with me said it was a dystopic purgatory. I agree.

I've just read the above 2 comments and felt the need to respond. dr.cohen has been my pain doc for over 13 or 14 years and there have been times when i would have to agree with some of the statements mentioned but---when i have been in very serious pain,he has always been reachable (even in the middle of the night or when he has been on vacation). here is an example; i was given naltrexone by some dermo dr. and within 15 min. after taking it i was in a ambulance to n.y. hospital (cornell). naltrexone is an opiate blocker. i have RSD in all four limbs and the pain level was so horrific that i was in and out of consciousness .the ER doctors thought i was just some junkie and did not really did not want to deal with me. my husband was trying to explain what had occurred but was not making much headway. i gave him dr. cohen's emergency beeper number so that maybe he could talk to these doctors and give them my medication list and generally help me out. this was at 2:30 A.M.!( and… dr.cohen knew nothing about the naltrexone.) dr.cohen was amazing! over the phone he took charge and the er doc,'s followed his advice. this drug takes 72 hours to leave the body AND NO OPIAD CAN BREAKE THUR. i was put in the intensive care unit for four days because i needed monitoring in case of a heart attack and to attempt to help with some type of pain control, my day to day pain control meds that dr. cohen. has me on is so fantastic that i had no idea how far my disease had progressed.DR.COHEN goes the extra mile when you really him. i searched for 15 years to find a doctor to help with my excruciating pain and then watching 60 minutes he appeared! thank god for dr.cohen.!!!!!!

was hesitant to leave a critical review but saw that someone else had the guts to do so...cares for awhile until he becomes frustrated if you require too much of his time and are more complex to treat than his time will afford. changes moods often and leaves you wondering what you as a patient has done wrong, if anything.seems very stuck on himself and overlooks many facts in treatment. somewhat passive-agressive in his behavior.he seems to be trying to do too many jobs given his time constraints and is overly ambitious to a flaw in not providing adequate, quality care to those he does see.

Was a long-time patient of his and after many years of adequate care my problems became multi-faceted and multi-dimensional w/ steepening complexities. Once you become too dependent on his time and efforts to properly manage your problems he becomes passive/aggressive in nature and lashes out. Becomes very cold and dismissive in handling legitimate, complex medical problems which frustrate him immensely. As a result of his inability to curb his desire/need for more and more appointments within the medical community and at his hospital in general he has less and less time for his patients. Waits have exceeded 2hrs during scheduled visits and he frequently cancels appointments, two or three in a row is not out of the question when it comes to his scheduling conflicts and/or errors. Once he tires of you as a medical project akin to a science project in school he will become easily annoyed and as mentioned earlier, passive/aggressive. Does not hesitate to twist facts w/ truth to… serve his own needs and will dismiss you faster than you can imagine! This is the honest truth! Be very careful w/ this doctor because I believe that if he can be this way with me after ten-plus years that he can turn on anyone in any situation. He literaly turned his back on me w/ no credible reasons or facts and actually took to slandering me to make my discharge from his practice seem legitimate and w/out harm. Stranded me in the middle of a medical storm w/ an abrasive and nasty edge to his dialogue and actions. Like I said, Be CAREFUL with THIS One!!!!!
