Dr. Mitchell Keith Schwaber, MD

Rude! Uncaring! Unresponsive! I went to see him on Tuesday. He did not even say,"hi" and instead stared at me until I said hello and then commanded me to put my mask up as he had covid once and wasn't going to get it again. My husband was there. He never involved him. He did not ask my history or what was going on and as I answered a couple quick questions, he all of a sudden "knew" what I had and then froze as my masked was not iver the tip of my nose and once again commanded me to get it over my nose. After 2.5 years of seeking answers I had hope and went to get a ct scan as directed. After noon with no response to the ct scan results to confirm tge first of 2 tests to confirm this diagnosis, the person answering the hine had no answer but said she would ask the Dr. to call. No call by 4pm and same person then told me in response to my call that he had been in surgery all day. Fast forward to 12:30 next day and I call again. She is told to tell me ct is normal with no further… instuctions to the fact that my issues are not gone with a normal ct scan. She said she would adk nurse to call me. It is Friday now and no call and their office is closed. What a terrible bedside manner and no follow up, and very demoralizing.

Dr. Schwaber has treated me and many of my family members and friends for over 25 years, always successfully. He quickly diagnosed and effectively treated a wide variety of ENT issues. Although he is busy, he never appears rushed with his patients, allowing time for questions and discussions…the best!

Dr. did my husbands surgery several yrs ago. Did a fantastic job. Very caring and considerate of patient and family. So glad we found him. Would highly recommend

I’ve been seeing Dr. Schwaber again for two years!! He’s not willing to dig for answers, just patch work (antibiotics, exercise)!! I used to think he was The Best, but not anymore!!!

I began seeing Dr. Schwaber in 1998 for Meniere's. Until recently the condition was manageable. In the last year, my condition has worsened. Two reasons I have left his practice: 1 - He continued to prescribe steroids although my condition continued to deteriorate. When I discussed side effects of weight gain and mood swings, the issues were dismissed. I gained 15 pds in 3 months and anytime I was on steroids, I felt and acted slightly manic. 2 - His staff, especially his front desk personnel, is not responsive and is dismissive when you are able to get them on the phone. They do not offer to take messages and only after pleading with them repeatedly do they offer to send a message to the doctor. As I have been in his practice for 20 years and did not need more than yearly med refills until the past year, I was stunned that I had to beg for assistance. I have since moved to Dr. Viner at OAT and much happier.

Up until about 2 years ago I was Dr. Schwaber's patient for about 8 years. My ex-medical doctor referred me to him saying he was the best doctor for Vestibular around. Wrong! My first few visits he was nice and made me feel like he actually cared about my condition by running a ton of test confirming that I have BPPV. He operated on me to clip the nerve endings saying that procedure has 80/20 cure rate. Since I had been suffering with Positioning Vertigo off and on for 12 years and my condition was getting worse with time, I decided to take the chance and let him operate on me. Also, on my first visit he put me on anxiety medication to mask the Vertigo which did help the anxiety and panic attacks caused by my vertigo. However, the surgery was not a success and a year later he operated on me again to see if there was a hole in the inner ear, which there was not. These surgeries just made me worse. He ran another set of test confirming now that I not only have BPPV, but also Meniere's… Disease and said I was a lifer and my spells would continue to be 24/7. More times than not he was so mean, sarcastic and very moody. Just plain hateful. I hated each year when I had to go see him. After having me on addicting medication for 8 plus years, which did help me to function like a normal person most of the time, but still having bad spells at times, his office informs me that they can no longer give me a prescription for this medication. When I finally got him to return my phone call to ask him why this was the case he said that the board had decided that ENT doctors could no longer give anxiety medication. I reminded him that he has tons of test results that proved my severe condition and he even said I was a lifer, but not to worry because there were lots of anxiety meds. on the market and i would never get immune to them all in my life time. He said "I know what I said, but I still can't give them to you". I ask him what he recommended I do to get help for my Vestibular condition and he said "I don't know, go see a Psychiatrist?" My medical doctor then referred me to an ENT doctor at Vanderbilt that specializes in Vestibular conditions. He has been my new doctor for over 2 years now and he is such a breath of fresh air with an awesome bedside manner. He went to school with Dr. Schwaber and told me that the surgery that was done on me was actually old school and really not done anymore because they saw very little improvement with it. Also, he said it was news to him that an ENT doctor couldn't prescribe anxiety meds. I have been getting my medication from my medical doctor since I fired Dr. Scwaber and haven't looked back since. My new doctor said he would prescribe the medication for me if I ever needed him too. I would not have continued going to Dr. Schwaber if I had known that there was a better doctor out there.

Very intelligent,nice, and thorough

You can't talk to him should a problem arise after your surgery! You have to call, phone is answered by rude lady, transferred to another lady, you leave a message and never hear back!

He is the best!

My daugher recently had extensive ear surgery completed by Dr. Schwaber to repair a hole in her eardrum and remove a lot of infection. (A prior surgery by another Dr. was unsuccessful a year earlier.) In all appointments leading up to her surgery he was prompt, caring, thorough and always spoke directly to her instead of me - I thought this was wonderful - she is the patient after all! Any questions or concerns that I had were discussed during or after his talk with her. He's great with kids, her surgery was a success and he always made us feel at ease about the procedure. I would highly recommend Dr. Schwaber to anyone who needs a great ENT!
