Dr. Mohamed A Atassi, MD

Mohamed A. Atassi, MD, is a regional cardiologist in the Robert and Suzanne Tomsich Department of Cardiovascular Medicine in the Sydell and Arnold Miller Family Heart & Vascular Institute. He practices at the Cleveland Clinic Willoughby Family Health Center. He is board certified in internal medicine and cardiovascular disease. Dr. Atassi earned his medical degree from the University of Damascus, Syria. His post-doctoral training included an internship at Christ Hospital, Jersey City, NJ, followed by residencies at Coney Island City Hospital and Maimonidis Hospital, Coney Island Division, both in Brooklyn, NY. After completing a six-month fellowship in cardiology at Cleveland Clinic, he returned to Syria where he was director of cardiology, Military Hospital, Damascus, for three years and an associate professor of medicine at the University of Damascus for two years of that appointment. He returned to the United States to complete his training with an additional fellowship in …cardiology at Cleveland Clinic. Dr.Atassi was named to the Cleveland Clinic Heart& Vascular Institute regional staff in 2010. Prior to his appointment he was president and CEO of Heart Specialists, Inc., Willoughby, Ohio, a private practice in cardiology that he founded in 1975. He continued as a staff cardiologist at Lake Hospitals system until 2012, when he was moved to honorary staff where he has been on the Active medical staff since 1975. Dr. Atassis professional memberships included the American Medical Association, American College of Physicians, Lake County Medical Society (past president), National Arab American Medical Association (past president), the Society of Cardiac Computed Tomography, Ohio State Medical Association and the American Heart Association, the Society of Angiography and Intervention,He is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology and the American Society of Echocardiography.
