Awful experience. I am highly allergic to ketamine. It is in my chart. This man never looked at my chart and was going to administer ketamine because I am already on opioid therapy for chronic severe pain due to a severe horse accident. When I questioned him about why he had not read my chart and seen the allergies, he then began to downplay my allergic reaction. He wanted to know what reaction I had. He then went on to state that he still felt I should be given ketamine. I had to demand he not give me such medication. He is extremely rude awful bedside manner and will rush you. He told me his nurse anesthetist would be taking over my care once in the operating room. The nurse anesthetist entered my room. I complained that my IV was hurting me prior to her administering versed , for relaxation. She noted that the hand was red and swollen and was greatly concerned and felt the IV should be removed and replaced the OR nurse was actually at my bedside as well prior to bringing me to the… OR and agreed that they had great concerns over the IV being infiltrated . At this time, the anesthesiologist walked back in the room, and the nurse anesthetist explained her concerns and that she felt the IV should be removed and replaced. The anesthesiologist disagreed and told her they were ready to proceed with surgery and that she needed to wheel me down you could see her hesitation, but unfortunately, she just followed her instructions from the anesthesiologist. I arrive in the operating room. I first only see the nurse anesthetist .the scrub tech and the OR nurse. They have me move from the stretcher to the OR bed. I am then given oxygen through the mask and told to take four deep breaths and then breathe normally. At this time, I feel somebody on my left hand side at the site of my IV .I was confused because the nurse anesthetist was on my right. It was the anesthesiologist and he began pushing propofol. This anesthetic is very thick, it normally burns slightly when going in, the burning that I felt was the worst burning I’ve ever felt in my over 15 surgeries. I began screaming “stop stop it right now., you are hurting me, my arm and hand on fire. Oh my God this isn’t normal. Please stop this right now. Remove it.” At this point, the anesthesiologist became even more frustrated and began pushing the medication in At a faster rate and much harder. Now the nurse anesthetist is becoming worried because I am screaming in pain so much she states to me “Patricia I need you to calm down take some deep breaths in through your nose out through your mouth your blood pressure and your pulse are too high, she says “remember that medication I told you we would be giving you that you would inhale once you were sleeping that has a foul smell?” I’m going to give you that now. I need you to calm down.” I kept saying “my hand is on pure fire”, and was trying to pull it away from the anesthesiologist. The first rule in medicine is do no harm when a patient tells you to stop you stop whether it sets you back in surgery or you canceled the surgery altogether. I should’ve been listened to. Fast-forward, I make it to the recovery room and I’m saying that my hand hurts. I am told that it is normal. I said no I’ve had multiple IVs and surgeries. This is not normal. I wake up this morning. The whole left hand is so swollen that you cannot see two of my knuckles and I have a large area of fluid under the skin where the IV was because the medication didn’t go into the vein. It went into the surrounding tissues. . This doctor needs to be held accountable. My fear is I am having surgery at another hospital and he is actually an anesthesiologist there as well. Needless to say it would be calling them this morning to make sure he is not on the schedule or I will not move forward with surgery. This man is very incompetent. He does not put the patient first and he needs to be reported to the board of medicine and disciplined. I will never let this man have anyth

No bedside manner. Apathetic and impatient. Unable to achieve satisfactory outcomes with epidural and uninterested in improving patient experience.
