Dr. Mohamed Ali Hamza, MD

A friend of mine has advanced glioblastoma that has spread to both lobes of his brain. In an MRI taken only one month after surgery his two tumors have grown over twice their size. Dr. Hamza, if you can call him a doctor, has recommended a chemo infusion that would cost the family 1 million out of pocket instead of urging him to go into hospice. There is little chance that his health insurance will cover the treatment, as death is imminent. Even if they approve of the treatment he will surely die before receiving it. My friend, who’s mind has been greatly impacted by the cancer, is refusing hospice in hopes that the chemo will allow him to live longer. If he receives hospice care insurance will definitely not pay for the treatment. He is being cared for at home by his 18 year old son. He has fallen 7 times in less than a week and his son has had to hold him up while urinating so that he wouldn’t fall and hit his head on the tile floor. My friend probably has less than a week to live… and his son is possibly going to fail his senior year due to having to stay home to take care of his dad. My friend’s general practitioner says he desperately needs hospice, but he cannot yet declare him incompetent because he has passed (barely) the cognitive test that he gave him. The doctor has noted that Hamza is not looking out for the best interest of the patient or his family. He is disgusted by Hamza’s negligence. He has seen the MRI images and says there is no chemo in the world that could extend my friend’s life. He said if my friend is not back in the hospital in a week he will be shocked. Hamza has ignored the complaints of my friend’s family and will not see my friend for more than a month from now. BE VERY AWARE!!! This man should not be allowed to practice medicine. From what I understand, he has represented the company that produces the expensive chemo therapy. It breaks my heart to see his son on the verge of a nervous breakdown. If you need an oncologist that cares more about his patients than his paycheck stay far away from Dr. Hamza.
