Dr. Mohamed Abdel Mageed Sharshar, MD

Dr. Sharshar is an Abdominal Organ Transplant and Hepato-Biliary-Pancreatic (HBP) Surgeon at Northwell Health. He completed his ASTS-accredited Abdominal Organ Transplant Fellowship at the Northwell Transplant Institute, Northwell Health.After graduating from Menoufia University, Egypt, Dr. Sharshar received surgical training in HBP surgery and living donor liver transplantation (LDLT) at the National Liver Institute, Menoufia University. He has been affiliated there as a Lecturer in HBP and Liver Transplantation Surgery since November 2021.Dr. Sharshar's surgical expertise includes liver and kidney transplantation, HBP surgery, and LDLT. He holds both a master's degree and a doctorate in HBP and liver transplant surgery. As part of his doctorate program, Dr. Sharshar spent two years at Kyoto University, Japan, as a Research Fellow, focusing on optimizing the use of small partial liver grafts in adult LDLT and strategies to prevent Small-for-Size Syndrome, including portal …venous pressure modulation.His research interests include the surgical management of advanced portal vein thrombosis during liver transplantation and the impact of sarcopenic markers on surgical outcomes after HBP and liver transplant surgeries.
