Dr. Hytham Rifai, MD

I had came into the the ER with trauma to the head which resulted in a fractured skull, bleeding and air pockets in the brain, 2 broken facial bones and a busted sinus. I was in the most unbearable pain I have ever been in my life. As a result of the ct scans, surgery to realese the pressure was a good possibility. After 2 days of hospital stay and morphine and fentanyl injections every 4 hours along with Tylenol, I was released based of the final ct scan. My swelling and pain had been at the same level even with the pain medications as listed above. Upon release, they prescribed be 600mg ibuprofen and that was all. I have called there many times but their office keeps saying he will call back or has been busy for days. My pain level has been intolerable and is no way to treat a patient going through this type of severe pain. There should at least be some sort of decency to call back about the situation. The pain and suffering that I have been through would make me not recommend this… doctor to anyone. No patient who is suffering from so much pain should be given that much medication at the hospital and be released with nothing with no response from his office. Extremely disappointing and disrespectful.

Do not see this doctor. He ruin my back during surgery. Had to see another doctor to have surgery again to fix his mistakes. Spend eight days in hospital and had to lay on my back without moving around. Never saw him at all during my stay. I repeat don't see this doctor. I give this doctor a zero rating.

I have been to Dr. Rafai for several surgical procedures. He is open and honest with his patients and isn't "knife happy" to line his own wallet. If he can help you he will, but if he thinks that it isn't in your best interest to put you through surgery he will just plain tell you. I trust him and will continue as his patient in the years ahead if I need his services. You won't find a better physician anywhere than Dr. Rafai.

I would not recommend this doctor to anyone. Instead of being able to make an appointment, I was transferred to the billing department and grilled on how I was going to pay for my appointment. I have insurance but because I had fallen they were more worried about my insurance paying for the appointment and a responsible party than being able to see the doctor. Plus, this was the second time that I was transferred to their billing department instead of being able to set up the appointment. I understood that if the claim was denied I would be responsible and I was okay with that. I finally hung up on the person I was talking to, Karen, as she was very condescending and rude to me. The first person I had talked to in billing (Donna?) was very helpful and I understood their policy on payment and it wasnâ??t a problem with me. I didnâ??t understand why the receptionist (Gail?) even transferred me to billing first instead of just making the appointment, since I had already talked to… billing at length. It is a shame when you cannot just make an appointment to see a doctor for an opinion without being scrutinized as to payment. If all you are interested in is getting your money then perhaps this is not the right doctor for me. I want a doctor who will care about my well being. Whatever happened to doctorâ??s caring about their patientâ??s. It is certainly a sad statement to admit. I had gotten a recommendation for Dr. Rifai through a good Christian friend, who apparently has undergone two surgeries. I will be disappointed to tell him how the almighty dollar was more important than getting an appointment to see this recommended doctor. I made it quite clear that any costs incurred would be paid by me if, for some reason, my insurance denied the claim which it has not to date. I guess that wasnâ??t good enough for Karen in billing. I will have to continue my search for a good surgeon who can point me in the right direction concerning my back.

He was aloof. I barely spoke with him. Overall the care was adequate, but i sought other opinions because I lacked confidence in Dr Rifai. What really got under my skin, though, was the $609.76 bill that went to collections. In addition, they are charging me interest on that bill. I have excellent insurance and an attorney at the time that I was hit by a car. I gave all my bills to my atty and paid some myself. This one was one I never received that I can recall. Certainly it was not sent to me repeatedly as it should have been before sending to collections. I'm insulted, because I have been responsible and paid for all of my out of pocket expenses for an accident for which I bore no responsibility. Yet this one comes over a year later as a collection! It makes me wonder if he's not trying to line his pockets a little outside of the agreement he has with my insurance network.
