Dr. Mohammed Khalid Soomro, MD

I started seeing Dr Soomro a few months ago after being diagnosed as being bipolar. I was going through a deep depression and no longer wanted to live life. He changed my medicine and within two weeks I was feeling more energetic and happy. I’m very thankful for Dr. Soomro

He makes sure he spend time with you and help you work out your problems. He also shows that he cares about you and your family. Office personal can be a little nicer but overall this office is dynamic.

The doctor spent plenty of time with me on my first visit and even saw me a week later as I was having crying spells. He diagnosed me very quickly and prescribed meds to alleviate that easily. He fit me in quickly. Staff was extremely courteous.

I have suffered from depression since my teens, and now in my mid 60s can reflect on having endured this condition for 50 years. Over that time, fifty years, a half century , there were years where my life was nothing but an utterly dismal struggle to just get through each hour, each day, where every waking moment was a struggle against hopelessness, an empty chasm of despair and mental torture. Looking back at the six episodes of major depression that I endured, some lasting months others for years, my life during those period was a hellish prison where at times it seemed the suffering would never end. I don't know if I can fully express the misery, pain, and joylessness that was my life at those times. Even thinking about those times brings back painful memories. but I am writing this to tell you that that is hope! I have been treated for my depression by several psychiatrist with varying results. In some case my depression lifted on its own, in other cases medications and… psychotherapy helped alleviate symptoms. I was fortunate to have a twenty year period in which my depression was manageable, and I thought that I had finally defeated this enemy within. Then in 2010 depression returned with a vengeance, like an avalanche sweeping away my confidence and plummeting me into a dark realm worst than any of my previous depressive episodes. I knew the precipitating cause that led to this depressive episode but no matter how hard I tried through reason, logic, and will I could not stop the downward path that I was on. Once more I sought psychiatric help but the psychiatrists I saw were mainly pill dispensers who spent 15 minutes talking about drugs with a perfunctory mien and then shooed you out the door. For two years I did see an excellent therapist who more than the psychiatrists I saw helped me but my symptoms were always present. I wondered if I would ever be able to escape this blackening shroud that robbed my life of joy, hope and meaning. I did not live during this time, I existed: with each day starting another cycle of despair. I told myself if I could get through this minute, this hour at least I would not have to endure that again. I did not think of the future because doing so would add to my fear that this terrible mental oppression would still be there. I lack the skill to fully communicate that mental suffering I endured. My life for what it was was a struggle to endure. The closest description of what my life was like during this period is found in the novel by Cormac Mccarthy The Road. That novel recounts a story of survival where survival seems pointless. That was my life. As I said I saw different psychiatrists, and one piece of advice I would give anyone with depression is if you are not satisfied or feel that the doctor you are seeing is not helping see a different psychiatrist. It took three seeing three psychiatrist before I saw Dr. Soomro. Dr. Soomro took the time to talk with me, not at me, and listened as I described by condition without having one eye on the clock. Dr. Soomro is genuinely concerned with you and seeks to find out about you as part of his approach to treatment. It took some months, but with changes in medication and recognizing the need to treat my anxiety (which no previsions psychiatrist had noted) along with depression I began to see improvement. I am now able to look forward to life again and do not see the future with dread but hope. This isn't to say that I'm "cured." The reality is that depression is not cured but managed, and I still have days where I'm not in the best place emotionally but those bad days are more tolerable now and with my sessions with Dr. Soomro I am coping more successfully with those bad days. There is hope for those of us who suffer from depression. Depression is a thief that robs life, stealing hope and joy, and leaving sadness and despair. If you are like I was enmeshed in what may seem to you an ending cycle of hopelessness, remember that that is not really you but the disease. Seek help! I would recommend Dr. Soomro unhesitatingly: he is a caring physician who treats you as a person as well as a patient. If you read this and are not in the Columbus area and you are not making progress with your current doctor go to another psychiatrist. Not all doctors are the same, but hopefully you can find one who will show you the concern and attention to you that I have found with Dr. Soomro.

Dr. Soomro and his staff should be commended for their excellence in providing exceptional patient care. The staff there are friendly, courteous, and just make you feel as though you are their most important person. Dr. Soomro is an amazing and awesome psychiatrist... If you find yourself needing one because of mental health issues, I highly recommend him. Now for my story... I have been living in the Columbus Georgia area for about 6 years. When I first moved here, I started to have mental health issues like depression and anxiety, but I attributed them to my graduating college, having a big move from Louisville KY, and starting my job as a nurse.. When those feelings persisted, I decided to see a psychiatrist, I was diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder, and was treated as such, but things were not getting better.. and things with my home life, my partner, were starting to unravel. To make a long story a little shorter, I had gone through 3 psychiatrists over 6 years before meeting Dr.… Soomro. As I now know, those three psychiatrists were treating me the the wrong thing: bipolar disorder. The meds I was on werent working, and my relationship became more and more strained.. basically to the point that just recently, my partner of 12 years and I broke up... Then I met Dr. Soomro... and can not give him enough praise... when I told him my symptoms that I was having (anger, irritability, anxiety, depression, etc) he wrote them down on a piece of paper, highlighted them, and then showed me the paper.. He said that the highlighted things were characteristic of... guess what NOT bipolar disorder... but his diagnosis was Borderline Personality.. and during that first visit, he adjusted some of my meds, added some, etc.. and after just a few days of taking the new regimen, I started to feel like a whole new person.. Since then, even though my partner and I broke up, I still feel like a whole new person, and that I can now accomplish and do things that I didnt feel like doing before... I wake up in a good mood, I go to work in a good mood, and I come home in a good mood. All over, my mental health has improved so much that I can not express how much it has improved.. if I had to rate my mental health now, I would say that it is a 9.9 our of 10, Dr. Soomro is an amazing guy, clinician, and he makes you feel important and that your health and well being is important.. So to anyone who made it through this long post, I tell you... make an appointment with Dr, Soomro... you wont be sorry

Whatever drug rep has visited him recently is the drug he pushes - his understanding of bipolar and related conditions is very minimal - he relys on drug reps to know what to push. He also pushes J&J Pharmacy as if he has a financial gain if you use them (and they are expensive).
